Best Fairway Wood off the deck?

rtraudt

Recommended Posts

As much as I love my RBZ Tour 3 wood off the tee, it leaves something to be desired off the deck. My trajectory from the turf is far from consistent (something that I've noticed other WRXers have had issues with) and considering I rarely hit my 3 wood from the tee (too stubborn to not hit driver...) I was looking to replace it with something that would perform much more consistently from the turf (and also probably not have a white crown...was never the biggest fan of that). Out of either this year or last year's FW options, what works best off the deck, occasionally from shorter rough? Looking for a high-ish launch, low spin option that will RARELY be used off the tee. Thanks for the help!

910F is the best all-around 3 wood I've hit - it really shines off the deck and, trust me, I've hit them all

I've owned the 913 and 913F.d and I prefer the 910F still as I'm much more consistent with the 910. I was losing the 913s right pretty often for some reason

I found a big difference between the RBZ and Stage2 for what you're after. In fact, it's why I selected the Stage2. Depending how far you want to go back an old V-Steel and Sonartec 2.5 were almost automatic from the deck.

Would an older FW, given all the advances that companies have made in this category, keep a similar distance to the RBZ? My current distance gaps are something I would like to keep fairly consistent, and I'm concerned if I go too far back, frankly a couple years at most, I will lose a significant amount of distance with my 3 wood. For that reason, I was looking strongly into the xhot pro (and the fact that it can be had for cheap nowadays...).

New Adams Tight Lies is ridiculously easy to hit off the deck. Launches nicely.

Thought this might be mentioned. Can't wait to hit it, as I've always been an Adams fan. Did you hit the 14.5 or the 16?

I too have found a huge difference in the RBZ and stage 2, I couldn't hit the original off the deck to save my life. Have the stage 2 and can hit it from anywhere. Only thing is I have actually lost about 5 yards off the tee but I'm a big hitter anyways so I don't mind it as long as I can hit the wood off the deck

I too am using the RBZ tour 14.5 3 wood (TP version). Great off the tee but have problems hitting it off the deck.

I'm thinking of replacing with Adams Tight Lies Fairway. I know this just came out but does any of you have this already? Want to know if distance is similar to other 3 woods.

I tried the 4 wood G25 (16.5*) stiff but the trajectory was high and the distance was same as my 18.5 RBZ tour hybrid TP.

Titleist 906f4 and Taylormade 200 tour are easily two of the most well spoken of fairways for ease off the deck that have not been mentioned thus far.

Nice to see some Sonartec love! I have a growing selection of GS Tours. I've never been able to fault them of them deck and they cope easily with all sorts of lies.

910Fd for me. Was getting identical results in the monitor with the 910F and Fd. Went with the Fd because I figured it would be better from the tee. Favourite club in the bag.

As mentioned, you won't lose much with a better shaft. What you'll likely find is even though you may be a bit shorter, you'll gain a stroke or two during a round because you'll consistently hit better shots.

Sonartec made some fantastic equipment. I really hated to see them go.

For a few years, I've had a G-20 4-wood. This was a GREAT club. Recently, I had my whole bag stolen, and I purchased a RBZ stage 2 3-wood 15º AND a RBZ stage 2 3-wood HL/17º.

For me, the g20 was MONEY off the deck. I SHOULD have bought another one of these.

Anyway, I've had a harder time getting the RBZ off the deck, but I'm getting there. The G20 got it up a little better on a thin strike, but I can still absolutely kill the RBZ when I catch it flush and no problems with the consistency of the trajectory.

You are talking about one of the harder shots in golf. Was there a FW from your past that you did hit well off the deck? If so, what's similar?

Used a friends taylormade burner bubble shaft 3 wood that always worked for me, but haven't been able to recreate that consistency yet. That club glided across the fairway for me. Might be the fact that it was never actually mine that allowed me to get along with it so well though...

Why not get a 4 or 5 wood instead. Much easier from the deck and more than likely will be further than a 3 wood anyways.

Also have been considering this option... Maybe something 16 or 17 degrees since it's rarely being used off the tee.

I would argue, and many on here would agree that the Titleist 906 series(f2 and f4) is arguably the best fairway ever made for off-the-deck shots. It should be in more bags. The only argument you can make with it is Do I go for the F4 or F2, Either one is the best choice, It comes down to preference for a slightly smaller head.
