he doesnt know what he's talking about regarding the shallowing there. I mean just do it yourself, if you lock the wrists, it's going to be steeper, not shallower. The only way you can shallow the club in that situation is to raise your arms through impact. when you allow the wrist to c0ck and uncock, there's a natural shallowing there going on.
Pinhigh, it's very possible Phil's statement is inaccurate regarding a static wrist position having a shallowing effect. I am not trying to defend said statement, or suggest there is only 'one' effective way to carry out a particular shot. What I was inquiring were perceived benefits of a steeper AOA? Regarding a static wrist position having a steepening effect, and hinge action having a shallowing effect, I am sitting here thinking about the putting stroke. Is there any stroke with less wrist hinge or a shallower AOA?

Does anyone know if having the peak of the bounce on the back of the sole can contribute to bladed chips and pitches? My 58* wedge has all of the bounce in the back and I feel like the leading edge is bouncing into the ball. Out of the bunker however I have no issues executing nice high spinning shots. Fluffy lies seem a bit easier as well. Struggling with the tight/good lie at the moment and have a little easier time if I put all of my weight on my font foot and just turn back and through.

Probably too steep. Try raising the handle at setup.

Which technique from Dan's short game video are you blading chips with? That will probably help people trouble shoot a little easier.

No but I've hit them. I will switch to the glide TS in 58 bent to 60. Newest callaway wedged MD2 are good as well.
Dan which Callaway grind do you like?

Check out the c grind non-tour md2's as well. They're sweet, probably my next wedges.

What makes you like the C over the tour? The higher bounce? I play a Vokey M 56.10 bent to 58, think the C compares? Mine is pretty banged up and time to get replaced plus I have gift cards to burn...
I definitely subscribe to the higher bounce mantra. I tried Hstead's C grind lob wedge 58/14 and S grind 52 (12? degrees of bounce). They sit beautifully behind the ball. If I remember how dan described the difference between the tour grind and the regular MD2 is that the tour grind has a straighter looking leading edge, while the MD2 C grind has a more rounded/circular leading edge. I just really liked the C grind 58/14 and since I play a 52/58 combo I wouldn't have to bend the wedge.

Think I had a eureka moment today on the course. About halfway through the round and struggling to consistently hit good chips and pitches I remembered a nugget I had found re-reading this thread about getting the left hand away from the left side in the follow through. I tried it out and could instantly feel the bounce sliding along the ground giving me a longer flat spot. It feels like my arms disconnect from my body and swing to the right while my body goes left. The club head stays low and my arms get extended automatically. I think before they would stay a little too connected and swing across the line. I never felt this extension before. Started hitting all of my shots around the green perfectly, even from tight lies. I hit one chip about 2 inches behind the ball and it still got up high and soft close to the hole. I can see the light hahaha.

I ordered the short game from Athlete Nation last week, already bugged Dan once about trying to save them, but I have a ? Is it the 13 clips that I have? Is that what those of you that bought it have as well? A couple vids don't have sound. Before I write to anyone, I just wanted make sure I knew what the whole thing looked like. Is there just a basic lay out on philosophy? I don't see one? Is that a case of just going to check out the YouTube channel? Back to wedge grind talk now. In the market currently as well. Trying to match up to a set of Miz H4 I got. Thanks....

You have to hit play. If the don't have sound it's because your in the mode to draw lines etc which cuts sound. The videos are broken down into different shots. The basics are covered in the basic chip video.

The point is t to save them it's to have them available at all times. There's a reason it set up the way it is. It's bestbto learn one shot at a time and watch one video at a time. NOT by watching all shots and doing them all at once

I grabbed a 58*T and bent it to 60, didn't know if 14* of bounce would be more than I'm used to. They seem to be getting cheap on ebay so I may end up grabbing the 58*14C just to pick the better of the two. Other than what you said about the straight edge look I couldn't find much info on the differences.

Nice. I'm going to trade in my current wedges and a hybrid to callaway preowned for some "like new" wedges. They'll likely come in the wrapper if my past purchases with them are any indication.

I am slow, I get that, but what I am asking is the "good/tight lie" actually the basic concept. Not trying to hit them all at once, just trying to understand the differences between this and Monte's. Sorry to be so dense.

There's not really any basic concept. Each shot is treated as individual. Some things apply to almost all of them. Some don't. The basic concept is using the correct mechanics for the correct situation. The good lie is a starting point. All other shots are variations to account for the lie and situation

Dan curious why the V grind is better than say an M type grind. I have been using a Vokey M type grind with 12* since I read Utleys book years ago, really like it, I think your techniques are similar but obviously not exactly the same....what is your opinion on the 2 grinds? Are they both good from bunkers? As well as basic pitches and flops?

Ping G400 Testing G410.  10.5 set at small -
Ping G410 3, 5 and 7 wood

Ping G410 5 hybrid-not much use.
Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal. 5-G
Vokey 54.10, 2009 58.12 M, Testing TM MG2 60* TW grind and MG3 56* TW grind.  Or Ping Glide Stealth, 54,58 SS.
Odyssey Pro #1 black
Hoofer, Ecco, Bushnell
ProV1x-mostly

The V grind is basically the M grind with peak bounce more forward in the center of the club. More versatile imo especially when open
I've found the Cally MD2 tour grind to be great and also the Taylormade ATV grind for 58-62* wedges using these techniques.

Titleist TSR2+ / Fuji Ventus Black TR 7X

Question:

What is the advantage to getting a 58 degree wedge and bending it to 60? Why not just buy a 60?

Also, read about people bending 56 to 58 etc. Is it just a matter of tweaking the loft with the wedges you happen to have purchased or is there another consideration of bounce, etc?
Bending lift alters bounce in 1/1 ration. Also bending weaker removes offset. So bending it weaker is to get more bounce. Most wedges are same bounce 58/60. So if you bend the 58 weak you get 2 extra degrees of bounce

Don't the atv's have a bit of a channel grind (very slight) to then though? Wouldn't that put the bounce too far back?
