What a great topic!

I had purchased a set of 1982-83 Titleist Tour Models probably about 10 years ago just for the pure look and had them re-gripped but never played with them since that wasn't my intent until now.

This season I through the tour models into the bag after starting to breaking 70, mind you on relatively "easier" courses :) but par 72 none the less and the scoring stayed consistent. The big difference was the lofts compared to my i20s which where at least a club off. So my usual 7 would be a 6 and so on. One thing I found was that I found it hard to draw the ball, my shots would go relatively straight. Not sure if thats because there's minimal offset on the blades but Im not complaining about straight shots.

By going down the classic blade rabbit hole I started obsessing about getting a more progressive blade set. The tour model 7 iron for example plays at 36 5\8 degree of loft which is quite weak especially for my swing speed, which then lead me to purchase my first set of Mizuno irons the MP-5s. I was going to hold off until the end of the season and probably put together an MP 20 combo set but the price point on the MP-5s in like new condition was hard to beat so I pulled the trigger. I havent received them yet but I must admit from a classic look perspective they would not have been my first choice but either way I cant wait to get them out on the course.

Just wanted to share my Mizuno newbie 2 cents worth since I really enjoyed reading the input provided by the seasoned Mizuno aficionados on this site! Knowing myself, I'm sure this wont be my last set of Mizuno's.

Really wish I could find a good condition set of MP 4 to make a blended set.

I'm running that combo right now.  I can't find anything that beats it.

I currently own a full set of the MP32, MP54, MP20 and JPX 919F. I love them all. My favorite is the MP32.

Good to see the MP-64s are getting some love. I forgot to mention them in my first post, but they're great irons. I had a set before I switched to MP4s, and thought a lot about a MP4 &MP64 combo set--just couldn't make it work at a price I liked. I will say, though, that I never found the MP-64s particularly more forgiving than the MP-4s. They're that Cavity That Might As Well Be A Blade category

I found a set of MP58s on Craigslist for $100, snapped them up quick.

They are in great shape, already over length and upright, new grips too. Not sure what the shafts are, but I hit them well so I'm going to game them for a bit.

I had a set of MP64s in the bag for a few weeks, didn't really have a great experience with them.

Mizunos, well... I, to this day have my 3rd set of MP30s, and a set of MP33s, and a set of MP32s, and a set of MP60s. All sets are pristine condition and stock True Temper shafts went bye, bye. All sets have

NS Pro 950GH SR shafts and are awesome! Any question?

Mike

Yeah let me know if you ever want to sell the 32s or 60s!  Even have my shafts in them!

I’ve been lucky enough to play quite a few sets - MP58, MP59, MP64, MP15, MP20, and Pro 223. I’d have to say the 64 were great but I’d almost give the edge to the 15. Almost.

MP33 is what I played for years! It’s a classic. I’m so happy to have Mizuno back in the bag. I’m old and the 225’s are just money.

I find a ton of Mizuno irons to be totally like eye candy.  I am not looking for new clubs at the moment as I just purchased a set of Wilson D9's.  But for a 50 year old beginner, totally new to the game, give me a set of Mizuno's that won't break the bank but still have pretty current technology (and tons forgiving) to keep at the vacation house.
