Stenson's placed higher than Scott over the 4 majors but Scott had two fewer shots over the 4 majors, so who had the best majors? Scott because he won one?

1. Stenson
2. Scott
3. Woods
1. Stenson
2. Scott
3. Mickelson
4. Woods

Mickelson won 2 tournaments outside the USA and one was a major. Tiger did not win any majors and 2 of the 5 wins were not even major tournaments.
Phil only won 1 Tournament in the US. And that tournament wasn't even a major tournament....see what I did there...

Thanks for posting this; it's a cool stat. It removes the "emotional bias" of the FedEx Cup and RTD trophies, and nicely reveals that Tiger clearly had the best year.

World player of the year , should be worldwide wins.
And what has Woods done outside the US ??

Got to go with Stenson, Mickelson, and Scott.

Clearly, many call american only golf, Global !

People usually count the US when discussing worldwide wins. I assume you realize that the US is part of the world.

I think the point of the thread is to allow for inclusion of ALL wins when discussing player of the year, not just pga tour wins.

You should start a new thread about "Who was the best player to have won in multiple counties with bonus points for different continents and extra bonus points for distance traveled".

Edit- does Phil get penalized because his two euro events were only 3 hours apart? That's like winning in Boston and NY. Not exactly spreading those wins across the globe. Heck, Tigers victories in the US were further apart.

I like Tiger less than Stenson or Scott but he was the best player in the world. Can you HONESTLY say that if you pick Stenson it's not because you just like him better? Or Adam Scott?

And as much as I enjoyed his British Open win, Mickelson shouldn't be in the conversation.
Did Tiger even win a tourney outside of the USA? The one in Dubai? It was not a major. World Player of the Year?

Stenson or Scott. It would be all Stenson but Scott won a major. Stenson won the Fed Ex and Race to Dubai plus he was second at The Open. Tiger comes in fourth behind Phil.

Not discounting Tiger's year, but different worldwide locations ? Says a lot , about these players game and performances.

Are you suggesting that Adam Scott be given extra consideration merely because he won in Australia, even though those tournament fields were weaker than a web.com TOUR field?

I can't support your premise. I also think the worldwide aspect of a Player Of The Year implies including all world players and not necessarily the location of the players' victories.

I doubt your web.com college boys would last a whole round in an Aussie event without crying.

I think my list provides world players, that includes players from different countries, and players that have had victories
in other countries that they have traveled to play, hence the term, world player of the year. I think these players have
had a great year.

Well no, if you include events on the PGA Tour then they didn't perform better. Tiger had 5 wins. That is more wins than the other players. Again, the "world" part of the discussion just includes all events, not just PGA Tour.

I'm struggling to figure out your logic? If you add up all wins, then Tiger has the most. Bu you give more credit if someone travels, even if its to an event with a weaker field?

The whole impetus of this thread and the discussion is to insinuate that Tiger didn't have the best year on tour.. but try as you might its not possible to do such a thing.

Yes, there is Golf outside of the PGA Tour. And that's what the discussion is about. Tiger's PGA Tour POY brought out a new discussion where we should include wins on other tours, not just the PGA Tour. There was never a discussion about excluding events on the PGA Tour.

Because there are so many tournaments across the globe, we should be looking at performance in all events. It is hard to understand?

So when you add it up, regardless of which tour its on you have:

Tiger Woods - 5 Wins
Adam Scott - 4 wins
Henrick Stenson - 3 wins
Phil Mickelson - 3 Wins.

I think many people are looking at this logically. Those looking at it logically are looking at all performance and don't want to exclude events. You and the others that are biased want to exclude events to support your argument.

Hence my comments as to how WGC's become diluted when Tiger wins them.. they no longer mean they are WORLD events but people are very quick to throw luster on them and the players when it is someone not named Tiger Woods winning them.

You can't compare Adam Scotts wins in Australia to Stensons or Woods. Much less competition.http://www.pga.org.au/scores/99739

His Masters win though is heavy.

Agreed, the Australian fields were very weak.
But remember that Scott also won the first Fedex event, which had a better field than any of Tiger's (except the Players) or Stenson's wins.

You sure about that one? I haven't checked, but I think WGC events have a higher rating (or at least equal) for OWGR points than the first FedEx cup event (and Tiger won 2 of those).

I'm not going to look it up, I think someone already pointed out the numbers and how they compare.
