What is the best Mizuno MP all the time?

This is a great question because usually people ask what the best Mizuno iron is and the overwhelming response is the TN-87. Technically the TN-87 isn't an MP offering.

MP14

Why? 17 years of use. A lot of it is sentimental, I played my best golf with them. But I doubt anyone will argue their feel & looks. I also love the MP33, but the 14s get my vote.

I think I've owned 15 of the sets on the list. I'm nostalgic for MP-9's and MP-11's because those were the irons I played during my lowest handicap years. That being said, I think Mizuno's have improved through the years. IMO, the 69's and the 64's are the best looking and playing sets they have made to date. I have all of these good memories of older Mizuno irons but when I see an older set, they're never as good looking as I remember. Many of the older sets had big, round short irons and/or drastic head size and shape changes from long to short irons Some sets had reverse progressive off set, i.e. MP-29's. Lot's of memorable irons in the MP line over the years.

. This is my sticks with G Loomis tour stiff shafts. Purchased new from a club builder in 2013. Not built for me. I was told they were built for a pro fitting late 80''s. Feel blessed, before the chin comes up , you already know where the ball precise destination.

The first time I struck a MP14 I knew they were something special. Set a ring way up the ladder for me

Years later I had a set of MP68. Played my best golf with them.

Now I have a set of MP5 in the bag and my game is on again.

But the best is yet to come I think. I can see a set of MP20 in my future.

Last set of clubs I played were Lynx Predators. Low profile as well as offset .

Loved the two iron.

Did not play for almost 20 years . Friend borrowed my Lynx and he lost them.

When I turned 43 , I had a choice , go to rehab or golf.

I walked 456 rounds in 5 month in Southern Ontario. Only broke 70 once.

5 in the morning until 8 at night. Everyday . Best summer ever. I am a horseshit putter, but managed to get down to a three handicap.

Still would like to no what thread bumping is.

I’m bias to the 18 because I prefer the boxy look and feel.

 

Lastly, the 900 and 919 Tours has had all the major and tour winnings vs the MP; interesting that the MP flagship is being surpassed by the JPX segment.

32 was a classic. But if I had to go back and play one again probably 57. Not as nice looking but put a real whallop on the ball.

Was nice to go back and thin about all the different sets I've had over the years, currently only have a set of 33's, which I've shot my best 2 scores with. I think my vote would be for the 54's tho, was a really solid iron that I could easily build up a set and game.

At the time the 33s came out, the top of the heap for Mizunos was considered to be the MS-11, which were also released as the MP-11. Having a set, I'd have to agree. Straight muscle, more bounce than any blade at the time (and even more than most that followed), and like anything Mizuno in those days, soft.

 

A possible exception would be the MS-4 from the 80s, if an MS can count in this six year old topic. Unfortunately no personal experience; I've never hit or played them. They were the set that Payne Stewart was said to have used for the 99 US Open.

I have owned MANY MP irons. For me, it's an easy choice- 33's! Close behind would be 32's and 69's. I am probably in rare company when I put the 30's in my top five....

14s for me, but I also loved the 32, 60, 69, 4, 64, and 18mb. I've owned just about all of them since the 11s. Cream of the crop as far as I am concerned. No other manufacturer gets their irons right as often as Mizuno, if you ask me. Perfect blend of form, feel, and function.

Probably the MP14, 33, 32, 68, 4, 18, and 64 in that order. But I also really liked the 60 and the 5. Tough call.
