Ben Hogan Wedge: Special SI -- What degree is it?

So I did my research and learned that there are various versions of this wedge. One is marked 56* on it, one is not. Some say that there is a 55* version as well. Then there is also a version with more offset...

Well, I am considering bagging this club but want to know what degree loft it is. Mine is the bronze colored one that has no markings, and does have a bit of offset. Any info on the degree this wedge is? I am assuming 56* but not entirely sure.

I am looking to purchase the Ben Hogan Special FW 52* gap wedge and Special LW 60* lob wedge

I bought 52,56,60 S I wedges maybe 5 months ago, Copper, expecting great feel etc.
Nice to hit but all went left.... too much Offset i think..so don't get tooo excited just yet!
Now i'm bagging older oil can Vokeys... 200 series. Raw. Nice. Happiness. !

the special can be made better by some custom grinding. turns it into a amazing wedge.

I have a copper model, in nearly new condition, marked SPECIAL-SI in red. No indication of loft. No offset.

I had presumed it was 55* or 56* but don't really know :mellow:

Any input appreciated!

It is a 56*wedge. You can go to your local hardware store and purchase a magnetic protractor for $10- $15 and measure all your lofts and lies.

I rather like the offset on my wedge for no other reason than it suits my eye.

56*. Mine is not copper. JP suspects it is cast, chromed. Feel is not up to snuff on this model.
The bottom is pretty fat and sits square as JP recalls. Not a Hogan fave. Prefer the Hogan Forged wedge series. Not sure but may be the only thing AMF got right...

I have the copper beryllium with the special SI in red also. I have had this club for 40 years and I’ve had many sand wedges during that period of time and not a single one can compare to this Ben Hogan design in anyway shape or form. Its versatility is better than anything I’ve ever played whether it was a Cleveland or a Vokey this is a true work of art around the green.
