Gateway @ Papago (3 day event)

Skydiver22

Recommended Posts

Just an FYI that the Gateway tour will be at Papago starting Monday the 20th, 3 day event.

- two perks for us....

1. the course looked perfect when I was out there today

2. they are selling PGA Tour quality yardage books in the pro shop for $20. Made by a guy named Cosmo.

I picked up a book, the detail is great.

Damn, I'd pay $20 to be able to finally figure out those greens.

I played there last year during the practice rounds for gateway, the pin placements were absurd! Spots I never even considered, mde it much more difficult.

Amazing that dudes drop 64's and stuff out there

There's a guy in 46th place that somehow is from Antarctica if you click the flag next to his name. His last name is Friesen... It's a stretch, but pronounce it Freezin' and you have some hidden comedy I can only guess he set up. Im rooting for his comeback!

I am just stunned at how someone could

A) shoot these kind of numbers

B) pay $1200+ dollars to play(Burnett being AM only had to pay $636!) and shoot those numbers!!

There are always dreamers... it's what allows the 10 people who make money to take the other 80s money.

I'm thinking that Mueller and Hogue are both out of Alta Mesa. Just WoW, to shoot those numbers on that track.

Speaking of numbers... Richard Goana shot his 12th 62 at Dobson. Had a hole in one and birdied 7 of 9 on the front.

Played in the WMPO pre-qualifier @ Papago the day after the Gateway event. Not taking anything away from a 61 that is dirty. However, the greens were very soft yet fast/true and a bunch of the tees were moved up in much more reasonable positions. The course played very fair so low numbers were def out there.
[/quote]

did you shoot 61 too?

Ha no good point. Fired 71. All I'm saying is that the course was in tremendous shape so if someone got on a roll they could fly balls to the hole and make a bunch.

Tiger's worst day, for example last weeks 79, would be these guys bad days.... I give em props for being out there trying, chasing their dream. Most are backed by some big wigs or hometown country club guys who have seen them shoot low 60s, throw them some dough to see what they can do. $1,200 to them is a lot, but it might be coming from a 100k budget to chase mini tours and monday qualifiers.
