ok i've heard of cross winds adding distance but this is ridiculous

ok first off let me state that i am in no way trying to boast about my distance and or trying to start a p*ssing match. i'm just looking for someone to rationalize what i experianced at the range today.

 

ok so i'm at the range today and there's a strong right to left cross wind that's if anything alittle into us at approx. 15mph by my guess and i'm hitting short irons and wedges and everything seems normal i'm hitting them usual distances until i get to my 7iron which is normally right at the 175 mark, which btw i did laser to be 177, but today i'm hitting my miss , a sweeping draw, at the 200 marker and my straight ones about 190. so i'm alittle confused since the wind is pretty much straight cross wind but i'm hitting a draw with the wind so i figure that's what's causing me to hit it further. then i work my way to my 2 iron and i'm hitting it much further than ever so i pull out the driver and proceed to hit 15 balls over the fence at the end of the range which i later lasered to be 336 yards. now i know hitting a draw with a draw wind would make the ball go further but a few drives i hit baby cuts that started straight eased right then blew back twards center by the time they landed. now my farthest recorded drive in the past week was 292 pretty much all carry (slightly up hill but landed on a steep up slope) gps recorded on the cart however accurate that is so i'm a relatively long hitter but i've never in my life carried a drive 336+ even straight down wind so basically i'm wondering how in the world i was hitting the ball so far? i mean i've hit balls at that range hundreds of times but never even rolled one to that fence but neither me nor my dad saw any of my drives land so they must have been in the tree's at the end of the range. anyway i'm just hoping someone can rationalize this for me cuz i'm clueless as to how it happend. the only thing my dad could think of is that the winds maybe 50ft above us were straight down wind and really strong which could be i guess?

Seriously, you might have just been in a groove. I sometime crush a shot 20+ yards over a green for no reason. Make perfect contact in the sweet spot and boom, there she goes.

Not sure how your range is laid out but maybe you were directly down wind but only the wind around you was swirling. Kinda like #12 at Agusta Nat'l: The wind is in your face on the tee but the flag on #11 is snapping directly away from you. Just a thought.

haha i'm not a beast, my swing felt effortless for a change and my timing was there but there's no way i added 50 yards of carry average over my best drive measured drive of the year ( only been able to play 5 times 4 this week ) there has to be something at play....well the range is set up really open its basically an open field with range markings and matts/grass hitting area with a few small trees at the very end before a road then a corn field. i'm playing sunday hopfully if the rain holds off here in the north east but if i'm hitting like this on sunday i'll shoot 100 cuz i'll never know what club to hit haha. oh and i checked the weather channel after i got home from the range and it said the wind was blowing out of the south west and the range faces south east which is a dead cross wind

Ive had the same expierence... Even if you put a little draw spin on the ball it will carry farther. Put some cut spin on it to only watch it lose 15 yards.

thats the thing i hit a few baby cuts too, the kind that if you hit on a calm day on a straight hole and started them down the center you'd be yelling at to catch the fairway, like maybe a 15 yard cut and they still carried the fence that's why i'm so lost as to how and why the ball went so far, the only logical thing i've come up with so far is that the wind above where i could feel was blowing straight down wind but that doesn't explain how those towering cuts i hit got pushed back to the left as the ball started its decent. i mean i've always been pretty long but i dont know of too many people that can carry 340 with a 45" driver with a smooth swing and well i've never been able to carry 300 before as far as i know soi can only assume other forces came into play either that or there were steriods in my breakfast :clapping:

well i went out the the same range today this time into a very slight wind maybe 5mph tops and i was no where near the fence maybe a few over 300, although its hard to tell since the range is dead flat and there's no marker past 250 so i guess it was just some crazy conditions that allowed me to hit it so far...wish they would happen more often
