DT So/Lo Roll and Carry Reviews

What is your take? Durability?

With the new Roll and Carry versions out there for a while, I wanted to post my impressions and get yours. Before starting my review, I must disclose my intense hatred for the NXT series. The ProV1 series is good, but not really relevant as my normal ball due to cost issues.

I got my first sleeve of Solos for participating in a pro-am. Although better than last year's Pinnacles, I was disappointed as I don't normally play Titleist balls. Nevertheless, I am open minded and willing to give just about anything (except the Hammer) a fair shot.

As someone who struggles getting any roll on wet, New England fairways, I must say the Roll version does seem to fly a little lower and I got some decent roll on tee shots. Furthermore, it performed as well as other 2-piece balls with respect to iron spin. With a soft feel I like, the So/Lo Roll would merit serious consideration as my "winter" ball but for one issue. Simply put, the Solo's cover is soft like butter and not in a good way. In my experience, the Solo's cover is not durable enough for a value ball.

My experience with the carry version was not a good one. With almost no roll, it definitely didn't fit my swing profile, but it probably would work well for someone looking for "carry" distance.

Ive played the DT Carry and Ive played some of my best golf with that ball. It holds the greens really well for a, "cheap" ball and is nice and soft for little chip shots around the green and putts well too.

It is a little pricey though, considering that there are lots of other golf balls that are just as good and cost considerably less.

I played the DT carry and hated it off of the driver, it really ballooned on me and I lost about 45 yards compared to my Bridgestone 330-S. It felt good on irons and around greens but the tee shots were a real issue for me. This is a great ball for a slower swinger with tee height issues or carry issues with irons...just like the ball said it does carry but only for slower swingers.

i don't see any good reason to play either ball, especially when you can buy a double dozen of Pinnacle Exceptions for the price of a single dozen of either the DT Carry or DT Roll. i don't see any good reason to play the NXT Extreme either. i pretty much don't see any good reason to play a 2-piece Titleist, period. if you're gonna play a 2-piece Acushnet ball, it should be a Pinnacle. personally, if i'm gonna play a 2-piece, it's a Wilson 50/50, Srixon AD333, Bridgestone e5+, or a Noodle+. or a super cheap, old school Dunlop Loco.

 

then again, why play a 2-piece when you can get Maxfli Tour Fires for $12/doz or Wilson i-Wounds for $7/doz?
