Wilson Golf Product Testing and Fitting Experience @ Pinehurst | Following Along Here

Wilson Golf is off to an exciting start to the year and we are very excited to be part of this groundbreaking year for the company. We have four extremely fortunate visiting the historic Pinehurst to meet with Wilson's team of product experts, test the newest products Wilson has to offer, play Pinehurst's No. 10 Course, and much more!

Members, alongside @knudson81, will be traveling Monday (6/3), and will be on-site Tuesday and Wednesday. Be sure to any questions that you have in and let us know what you want to see over the next few days as members will be happy to answer any questions that you might have. Follow this thread closely to stay updated, as we will be updating it as frequently as we can with information that you do not want to miss!

As far as questions - would love to hear more about the Wilson line of products and how each tester is fit into their models. Candidly, I’ve never considered Wilson products (love them visually though) so curious to learn more. Thanks @GolfWRX_Official and the rest of the team!

Congrats guys!!  This is one that I wanted realllly bad.  Not sure what can and cannot be shared.  But, what does the itinerary look like?  Golf on Wednesday?  Any of you guys staying back an extra day or two to play a little extra? 

 

My only request is lots and lots of pics if you can swing it!  Product pics, course pics, etc.  I know it's hard to balance between posting updates and actually taking in the experience.  So, I hope you guys get everything you can out of it and update the thread as long as you have time.

 Arrive late Monday so check in and then dinner . Tuesday will be a long day with fittings. They gave us scheduled for five hours! Then dinner

 Wednesday morning play #10 early … shower and fly home.

We are doing our fitting/product testing on Tuesday with the Wilson crew and a nice dinner afterwards. I plan on taking video/pictures of everything that we can and posting them as we go through the day.  

 

Wednesday is our big day on no. 10.  Walking 18 early in the morning with the group and flying out that afternoon.  

I would have loved to stay and play a few other courses (no. 8 would have been really cool!) but I'm already pushing my companies 'unlimited' PTO policy to the limits 🤣!

Sounds like the fittings will be pretty involved.  Keep some gas in the tank for Wednesday!

Really looking forward to seeing what content comes from this trip. I really wanted to experience it first hand. Definitely following the forum to live vicariously through the WRX Crew selected for this opportunity and learn about what experience Wilson has to offer golfers.

They are playing it close to the vest on what’s available.  Right now the only 100% thing I know of is Irons.  
 

I play a T100/100s combo set right now so I’m excited to see what the CB/Dynapower Forged look like together.  I would love to be able to play a MB but doubt I can pull that off.

Definitely interested in hitting both the CB and the Dynapower Forged. Like @Olson12 said, they've kept the testing portion pretty hush hush so far, which has only increased the excitement level.

I'm bringing my camera with me for Tuesday's events. I'll probably just rely on my phone for Wednesday with the current weather forecast not looking great. Hoping that changes so I can take a bunch of higher quality photos.

I do have a more general question for @Wilson_Golfor any of the testers... I've been in two different golf shops and was comparing the looks of the Wilson CB next to the Blueprint S and Mizuno 243.  In both cases, when I set the 7 irons down next to each other, the Wilson 7 iron was about 1/2 in shorter than the Ping or Mizuno even though the specs on their respective websites show the Wilson irons should be the same or a bit longer than the others.  Any idea what is going on here?  Is this a difference due to measurement technique?  Or, more importantly, if I pick up a set of Wilson irons, do I need to plan on ordering them longer so that they come out equal to standard in other iron sets?

I noticed that as well when I went in store to check em out.  I’ll be sure to ask how they measure.

Yea but they pick based off of answers and reputation. I think for this experience they went with some of their more reliable forum testers versus chancing it on someone who might or might not be able to do the content piece. Let just hope that Wilson is able to kick TM guy’s gear out of his bag.

My question for the testers is if Wilson uses their AI Fitting tech, did you feel it provided an accurate assessment? In addition, how does it feel to use the tech? I’m sure most people want to know, as Wilson is rarely in the fitting bay, how Wilson-certified fitters stack up in the fitting space. Are they knowledgeable? Are they looking at your swing and making suggestions to help reel in efficiency? What is their knowledge of current golf equipment trends, and how do they explain why their equipment stacks up (I.e., Callaway and Cobra have been using AI faces for years; how accurate is Wilson’s supercomputer compared to others in the golf space?) Should drivers and woods be tested? I’d also love to know how the Cortex, D9, and C300 line technology led to advancements in the Dynapower range of woods. And how do they compare, as while the new Wilson is more affordable than most, older Wilson tech is even more affordable?

These are all great questions. You and I share the same curiosity about the fitting process. I’ve been fortunate enough to go through several fittings before and will be able to compare the different experiences. In fact, I’ve even booked a $25 PXG fitting out of boredom on a weekday just to see how their process works and to chat about golf.

 

Here are my fitting experiences so far:

• In-person Ping fitting at the factory (free general fitting, not the VIP) - indoor GPS
• Hot Stix Golf (third-party fitting) - outdoor with Trackman
• PXG - indoor with Trackman
• TaylorMade - outdoor (not the Kingdom) - with Trackman
• Cobra - outdoor with Trackman

I'm most excited about this upcoming fitting because I haven't been fit in the last three or four years. During that time, I’ve lost weight, going from 350 lbs to 250 lbs, and my swing has changed significantly. I now have a less aggressive transition at the top of my swing and a smoother tempo. I used to play X100 in my irons, but after my weight loss journey, I couldn't get the ball airborne. In my last fitting with PXG, they suggested I should play the Steelfiber 110 in stiff. I'm curious to see if that is a true fit for my game or if they were just pushing an up-charge shaft and because they didn't have an X in stock and went with that instead. 🤣
