Hey, I live in long island and I'm attending the jrpga next year. Great place, facility and the houses are nice. The school is smaller compaed to the others but it is also cheaper, 40 grand for the year cheaper than others but still enough. The instructors are nice too. I visited it in February and the course is nice, golden bear golf club Jack Nicklaus design. Heres the link. Give them an e-mail they're very helpful. here

Can I just ask as a curious observer.

What does a school like this cost/year?

JRPGA is 40,000 per year includes Instruction, housing, gym and FCWT membership and 6 entries.

40,000/year!????

lol...do they teach natural talent there?

40,000 dollars per year is the most ridiculous thing I've heard, what are the point of these schools?

Getting scholarships? Going to the Tour?

I would hope they guarantee you a Tour Card for that much/year.

Ok I clicked you link and look at "profiles"...

There is a kid who is a 15 handicap going there??

So basically this is for rich kids who think they have a future in golf*not saying they dont*? I can't believe people pay for this I'm in shock reading the profiles...

Hey believe me I was surprised when my Dad started to talk about it.

does 40000 come with the actual schooling? and i am no rich person but this may be a possibility

I think the schooling is just like high school, no post secondary stuff, no university, just the free high school you get anywhere else. (At least I think it's free in the US??)

School motto-

" we will get you a Tour card or blow through your 401K trying"

Lol, I think for most people the 2nd part of that statement comes into play.

oic..... do you think it is worth the money?

If your parents are financially comfortable, then I don't see this being a bad idea. If your an average income family you probably can spend $5K/year getting a swing coach, playing AJGA events and getting a membership at a club while playing on your local high school team.

I would say if your parents have to take out a loan, or add more debts you probably should not push this idea, especially in this financial time.

we are kinda above average but my parents were going to pay for my college so i am going to try to have them only pay for this..... i have the grades

Are you a good golfer?

Realistically Division 1 College Good?

If your being real with yourself and the answer is yes, I would say that's a good trade off and this can help you get a Div1 scholarship, I mean that's pretty much the point of these.

Oh you got lots of time then.

Just work really hard on your game for the next 2 years, I think it would be best to go for grades 11 and 12 if your seriously considering getting a scholarship.

If not and you just want to improve your game, just hire a PGA Pro to be your "coach", keep or get a membership at a club with a range, and practice practice practice.

The second is just as good and might even turn out better if you and the Pro gel well...who knows you YOUNG!

Neither is a bad option just make sure your parents are 100% on board and don't push them on it.

A kid I personally know went to the DL School. It's something like 50K/yr but after his junior/first year there he was good enough to earn a scholarship for his senior year. He was considered one of the top 25 juniors in the country. He got a scholarship to AL.

I doubt especially in these economic times that your parents would consider sending you to a 40K/yr HS/GS if they couldn't afford it.

Go for it. Get a summer job and show them you're willing to help pay the freight even if all you earned was a drop in the bucket it would show your seriousness and maturity.

i currently have a membership to two courses. I am going to try to pay for a few lessons this summer. I should be golfing about 4-5 times a week until fall this yr. I am also getting new irons and a new driver so that may help me a little bit. I should be shooting par by the end of the summer.

That's a lofty goal...20 shots is A LOT to drop in 3-4 months...

good luck.

I have been around many of these golf schools and I am going to be honest.

I am going to point out one example, leadbetters's 14 year old son.

i dont want to pick on the kid at all and he may be the nicest kid on earth.

he has the one of the best coaches on earth , all the money in the world, and gets to train in florida full time.

One thing that cannot be bought is talent.

I have never seen a academy junior's handicap go down more than 5 or so strokes over the course of a school year.

their is not one academy on earth that has made a 18 handicap into a par player in a couple years and you can probably extend that to 5-6 years.

I hope you the best thou and keep working hard.

Best Wishes
