Do I need to use a 3-wood?

I have been looking for a while, and I just can't seem to find a good 3-wood, or at least one that I am comfortable with. Do you think I can just use a 15 degree hybrid instead? Any ideas?

A similar lofted utility club will be slightly shorter distance wise. I removed my 3 and 5 wood and replaced them with a 16* rescue club. The rescue is certainly easier to hit especially off the deck and I find it to be a more versatile club. In the end, what matters is whether the distance you lose is of material significance to you. I can get about 230 yards out of my rescue and this suits my needs most of the time. It is only in long par 5's that I am trying to reach in 2 where a 3 wood might be a better suited club. Just my 2 cents.

I personally feel that the 3-wood is the hardest club to hit for the average player. It's the longest club that you will hit from the ground or rough. No one says you have to carry a 3-wood so use the club that will get you the most consitant contact, don't worry about distance too much now, that will come eventually.

Agreed. A 3-wood can serve three purposes so yeah it just depends on what you're looking for.

Thats so crazy. Ive posted before on weither I should carry a driver or not. The 3 wood is by far the best club in my bag. I can work my 3 wood about any way I need but I fight a driver alot.

anyway, as to your question, I think you are better off putting a club into play that you are confortable with no matter what the distances. If you can't hit a 3 wood, put something in that you like. Good luck!
