Which GPS

OK, I'm buying a GPS unit this week and am not sure which one to get. I have never used a hand held golf GPS, I have used the GPS supplied on golf carts and the GPS I have in my car. I am really leaning towards the Sky Caddie SG 2.5, based on what I have read. Any thoughts, recommendations, you have will be greatly appreciated. I would really like to hear from those of you that use GPS units on the course and what your experience has been.

Golfdog, I've been using a Golf Guru for approx 3 monthes. So far I am delighted with it. Its relatively inexpensive, no annual subscription fee, very good selection of courses available for download. If a course is not in the data base an email request will have it added within a few days. The screen is a simple mono LCD but that's all you need for outdoor viewing. Runs on a rechargeable Lithium battery that I recharge every two rounds of golf. One of the key features is the excellent accuracy which is generally within two yards of a known marker. After playing with a GPS, I would hate to play without it. Sure beats searching for course markers. Good Luck. Stanf

Here's a second for the Guru. I'll add to the post above by stating that the size of the Guru makes it a better choice than the SC2.5. I have a buddy that I play with that has the 2.5 and he is often asking me for a yardage for the simple fact that I always have mine in my pocket. He leaves his in the cart and doesn't want to walk back there to get it (mostly on tee boxes). I whip my Guru out of my back pocket and give him the yardage he asks for. Check the course listings to see if they have most of what you play. What they don't have, they will add with a simple request from you (does require a bit of planning sometimes).

 

The size, cost and accuracy can't be beat :russian_roulette:

I have had the GOLF GURU since mid June and I love it. I had the company map a course I play in the Portland Vancouver area and about 5 of the holes were off by @ 10-15 yards. I requested a re-map and was delighted with the speed at which they complied with my request. The re-map was dead on. I spot check for accuracy by standing on the edge of the green and if it reads ZERO + or - 1 or 2 yards I'm confident in the yardage it gives me for that round. I have yet to find an error greater that 1 to 2 yards and I also play @ 3 times a week and play about 5 different courses and all are mapped. Buy the GURU you won't be disappointed. Their customer service is excellent.
