SuperStroke S-Tech: Review

The S-Tech swing grip is the newest addition to the SuperStroke line. If you're like me and love SuperStroke products then you'll be eager to try these out. The grips come in three colorways: Black/Yellow, Grey/Yellow, and Blue/Yellow. I went for the Grey/Yellow just to be a little different. After playing with them on my wedges for a couple of days to test this is what I found:

 

First Impression:

 

These grips are VERY soft to the touch. As a scratch golfer who uses GP New Decades from wedge to driver, I was hesitant to switch to a full rubber grip. However I was not disappointed. Even though they are very soft, they are quite tacky. I like to play a lot of short game shots and wedges with no glove and these played very well, even in hot/humid Florida with a lot of sweat. The grip pattern is very similar to a Lamkin R.E.L. grip with a circular pattern. I pictured the S-Tech with a GP Tour Velvet to show the difference.

 

Performance:

 

From chip shots to full shots, these grips retain their great feel. They still give good feedback while remaining soft to the touch. As soon as I hot a shot I knew if it was good or mishit, but they didn't rattle my fingers. They excelled the most around the greens. They have a very confidence inspiring shape, feel, and size that helps you hit pitches and delicate chips with proper speed. When you have harder and dryer grips, they can tend to make you grip the club tighter and cause more tension. This leads to more chunks and skulls. So these softer and maybe slightly larger feeling (+1/64) grips can help short game shots.

 

Pros:

• Very soft and comfortable in the hands
  
• $5.99 price point is very reasonable compared to other high performance grips
  
• Durable and excellent quality coming from SuperStroke
  

Cons:

• Only 3 colorways, all of which have yellow lettering (Not the most attractive)
  
• The yellow ink in the buttcap gets messy if exposed to grip solvent, which has to happen.
  
• If you like a simple, plain look with no logos, you're out of luck.
  

Conclusion:

 

The SuperStroke S-Tech is a great grip and a huge step up from their last attempt at a swing grip (TX-1), which was the single worst grip I've ever used. It is very soft and comfortable and cheap compared to some other grips. These might be the first grips to ever take the New Decades off my clubs. I would highly recommend these grips to players of all levels.
