Rust inside shaft of Titleist 735.CM w/ PX

I decided to regrip my irons for the first time that I bought new in Sept of '06. So, basically just over a season of use here in the Northeast.

 

Well, not only is it a pain to get the Titleist grip tape off, but I noticed they didn't do a great job of covering the butt end with extra tape. Every iron is starting to rust inside the shaft. I took a pipe cleaner and cleaned some of the rust out. What else should I do.

 

Should I be worried?

I was just reading a book by Tom Wishon and he mentioned this situation. It is normal because moisture gets trapped inside the shaft. It's pretty much unavoidable, but the good news is it will not affect the performance of the shaft on bit. So no need to worry. :russian_roulette:

I have regripped other irons in the past, and don't remember seeing this much rust. It has been a while since I have had to regrip because of getting new irons, so I could be mistaken.

I've seen new shafts come out of storage/freshly shipped out with slight rusting on the inside, it happens easily. Don't worry at all.

Yes, you should begin to worry in 40 years or so.

If you are TRULY worried about it, you can spray some WD40 down the shaft.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't loose any sleep over it, but you know golf. Any negative thoughts in your head, justified or not, don't help my game.
