I have owned both, and both companies make excellent putters. As far as which look better, it seems guage japan, now gfield in the USA, has come out with many more new and interesting designs than whitlam golf has in the last year or so.

Take a look at some of the pics in this thread to see how they have separated themselves from davids line.

Yeah, its always a hot topic....usually people are either really for one over the other. Personally I like the look of some of the Whitlam stuff, ie my Crazy Caliper with the cold star finish, and being an American I would love to support his stuff...But I flat out put better with the 3 Gauge Japan Putters I have...My gamer now is the G-Field Premium Zero.

I am interested to see how the G-Field name will be able to compete with Gauge Design USA once they release their stuff in the states later this year. It will be interetsting to see how it all pans out.

How do you guys think G-Field is going to fair? Better then Davids stuff?

Personally I am looking forward to the Athlete Leap version....that insert gives it a great role.

Both companies make FANTASTIC products! Both make, in my opinion, the BEST retail putters on the market. With that said, I have a good relationship with David and a Crazy Caliper in the bag...

HAHAHAHAHAHA...it was for my girlfriend. I swear...that said...:)

And I agree the Crazy Caliper in my opinion is the best looking putter I have seen.

I don't know the whole story though I've heard a lot of arguments for and against each. Too much poop to sort out.

I've owned 2 Gauge Japan putters. One was a center shafted mallet with ingots in the face which was very nice, but had a sweet spot the size of 'The Putterball'.

The other is a Gauge Tubu Black heel-shafted mallet. I love it. I alternate it with my Tour Betti. It has great feel and looks like a black Red X with more meat on the toe. I put very well with it, and you know it's results that count.

One thing that bothers me about Gauge Japan is that the overwhelming majority of their product is in fact Made in China. Only the stuff that says specifically 'Made in Japan' is made in Japan. A little deceptive.

Not a big deal normally, but Gauge Japan stuff is expensive, and the name suggests 'Made in Japan.'

As far as the USA stuff goes, I'd like to try it one day. I just haven't seen anything that's really caught my eye. Though the dancing caliper putter was really cool.

their cheaper models, basically the forged series on down, are made in china. Everything higher dollar is made in japan. I personally don't care too much about where it is made. The balde is one of the best putters around and it is part of the forged series which is made in china.

I agree Matt411, I dont care where it was made either as long as she performs....and "the balde" is a very solid stick

I haven't played the Japanese Gauge putters, but I want to give a big thumbs up to the USA made products. I recently purchased a GA01A ETBW (Answer style) putter sight unseen on the recommendation of a friend and the seller mentioned that he had a tour issue mallet (GA008) laying around that he wasn't using and would throw in the deal at a VERY advantagous price. Being a club 'ho of the highest magnitude, how could I say no. Good thinking! While I like the blade putter a lot, I REALLY like the mallet. Both putters have good head weight (350g for the blade, 355g for the mallet) and with the tungsten weights in the heel and toe, are extremely forgiving without going to the oversizing and odd designs of most high MOI putters and put a great roll on the ball. And the quality and feel, well let's just say that I have played various high end Bettinardi's and the mill work on the Gauges is at least their equal and, for me, the feel is better. As for comparison to Cameron, not to stir anything up, but the feel is at least as good as the Cammies I've had and the forgiveness and quality are noticably better. These putters can be hard to find (and harder to demo) and can be expensive, but there are bargains around. Highly recommended!

I sold that to a Korean guy that was lowballing me for clubwork. I'm almost certain that he is putting terribly with it! LOL I couldn't find the sweetspot either.....I guess poetic justice :)

I have a M2+ Japan and like it alot. I had a comparable Whitlam GAA8 that I liked alot as well but the M2+ has a much more refined look. Both roll the rock about the same.

LOL!

I have to say, I've been playing my Gauge Japan Tubu (won't play the Betti in the rain) and have been sinking a ton of putts lately! It seems like every time I need to make an 8 footer for par I make it. Also bombed about a 45 footer yesterday. I'm shocked, to be honest!

Yeah she is a sweet putter.....real heavy with those weights added too. I dont know the official gram weight on it but its alot heavier then the G-Field premium which is already pretty heavy.

I have used a Dave Whitlam long neck for the past 6 years. It is my all time favorite putter, and for those of you know me I have tried them all.
