Hi GolfWRX Community,

Greetings from the Rio Grande Valley, my long time home! I stumbled upon GWRX while at work one day when I had time to let my mind wander to recreational things (mostly this year it's been golf, and especially recently given some turns of events) and I came here.

I'm 29, a mid teens hcp, married, and teach elementary music at a very large PK-5 campus. I've been playing golf since I could understand dad would always like to walk out the door with a big bag over his shoulder. Since about 7 or 8 I've been swinging clubs, but it wasn't until the last three years that I started to really get into improving my game. I started out with dad's Ping Eye irons, bought around a year or two before I was born I think, then moved to a set of Burner XDs about 4 years ago. I improved to the point of surviging a round in the low 100s to shooting mid 80s and feel I can get even better. I recently purchased a set of lightly used VR Splits and am really enjoying how they feel. A little heavier than my last set, but smoother when everything is in motion.

I mentioned recent turn of events and how golf is taking my mind off some things. About five years ago my mom was diagnosed and beat breast cancer thanks in large part to MD Anderson. Recently, on a routine checkup there, she was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and has lesions to the brain because of it. She's on limited time as far as we know right now, but hopefully something can be done to provide excellent extended quality of life. My wife and I were engaged over Thanksgiving last year, and we were planning a wedding for September. Mom's condition meant we began worrying if she'd make it to that date (her one real wish at this point in her life was to see my wedding), so my wife and I decided to hold a small, private civil ceremony at my parents' house. My wife unfortunately lives in Austin, while I'm in the RGV at least until the school year ends. I miss her a lot during the weeks we're not visiting each other, but we're making it work for the short term until we live together. I'm trying to find work in her area, as we'd both prefer to live up there than down here.

Anyways, TL;DR for some:
Thanks for having a great looking community site to peruse and take my mind off darker troubles, and for feeding my interesting in what's new and trending.
