How does my swing look?

Tr,

Compliments on your swing and also welcome the WRX, I want you to know first and foremost I am not a credentialed instructor, I can only pat myself on the back for being a huge fan of the game for 4 1/2 decades -- someone who's hobby is looking at swings -- and has learned through his own mistakes. The heavy artillery instructors are clearly out here on the board and I hope and trust their message will be forthcoming as well.

One day when you get a chance -- the dead face-on camera angle from about that same distance would be good as well as a down the line (since the gurus on this forum are accustomed to analyzing from those views -- just fyi).

To my eye there is plenty to like. You have a very stable spine and swing around it well. Very complete finish whereby you get your left side completely through the shot. There is a nice deep turn going back - fantastic transition move with the lower body getting things started back down. (That knee separation is perfect in transition). You never back your sternum out of the shot. Great looking secondary spine tilt at address... so many golfers lack that little element in the address posture. Just a ton of really good stuff.

The only things I see may or may not need to be incorporated. I share them not knowing much about your game or your typical misses... So these are observations of you versus other golfers who hit certain "ideal" marks..

1, Levelness of the shoulder turn - It would be great to see this issue from a down the line view -- but your shoulder turn looks a little level with the horizon. Assuming you have enough bend at the waist at address, you would normally expect to see the shoulders turning 90 degrees to the spine which would mean the lead shoulder is a little more under the chin at the top of the swing.

2. The "L" formed by the lead arm and the shaft at the top is often transported all the way down just before impact. You might notice that in the bottom half of your downswing the lead arm and shaft are lining up just a touch early. Not sure if that's something you would care to address either but it looks like a little bit of casting is going on. Often the golfer has the trail side (your right) elbow passing in front of the trail side hip with that little bit of cupping in the back of the trail side wrist being transported all the way down where that "L" gets dumped a little later in the game.

3. The angle of attack of the clubhead moving into the ball is a little level-to-descending. This can impart some backspin which is handy for irons and even hybrids - but is often not as healthy for the driver. Many great drivers of the ball catch it a little more on the upswing. I won't go into all the D-Plane and ball flight law crap that's part of why you might enjoy having it teed up a bit. (I actually tend to think this issue and the two mentioned above "could" be related.

Well that's about all my old eyes have to offer. Hope this is taken in the spirit it is given. Again, Welcome to WRX. Its a good swing -- lots of good things happening and good luck out there.
