My new swing, any advices are welcome!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I was working on my swing during the winter on my indoor facility.

I put in quite some work and this is the current result.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBud4a0FTGE

Most of the time I was hitting indoor into the net during winter, so I can't really say much about my misses at the moment.

Last weekend I went to the range and I was pretty satisfied with the shots, rather straight with a little draw, the miss was certainly a pull and over draw a little.

In the slow motion mode you probably can't really see it, but I need to work on my tempo and rhythm snice I am rushing through my backswing to fast.

If you guys know any good instructions, it would be nice if you could help me with that too

At the moment I don't have a front on view, but as soon as the weather gets better in Germany I will be doing some filming outdoors.

It would be awesome if you guys could have a look on it and give me some input.

Thanks guys!

Hello J

Welcome to Wrx and I hope I can offer a small bit of assistance. I am a fellow golfer who enjoys swing analysis. I am not a professional instructor and wish to be perfectly honest about that. I'm an 'expert' on what works for me more for myself versus what is necessarily great advice for other people. I've been playing for going on five decades and have enjoyed studying swings for over half that time frame. There are professional instructors who would likely be better suited to help you but I'm certainly happy to offer you a critique based on what I see.

Your hard work clearly paid off. Your upper body indicates wonderful stability as evidenced by the line through your spine to the top and back down through impact. This is very impressive and quite rare. You also open the hips nicely through impact which is also the hallmark of a swing reliant more on rotational power versus lateral sway. Your hand path back down and through moves very close to the starting spot your hands were in at address which is also rare. Well done!

It certainly would be nice to see the swing from a face-on view since the golf swing is three dimensional and there are ALWAYS things to be learned from both views. Going forward you may wish to back the camera up just enough to see the full motion of the club at the top of the backswing and also align the camera more down the toe line. As is, the club somewhat disappears out of camera view at the top, and the angle is a touch inside of the toe line. This causes some distortions for those who analyze swings -- but that said there is enough seen to offer up at least a couple of thoughts.

If it were me personally - I think I might focus on two things. One would be the initial address. Specifically I believe I would inch the feet just a fraction back from the ball and bend a touch more from the waist. This would open up the opportunity for the second area of focus - namely allowing the right elbow a touch more room to pass in front of the right hip going into impact. When the right elbow leads the hands a bit more several good things happen. The handle will be just a fraction to the target-side of the ball which leads to ball-first then divot ball striking with your irons. This will in-turn lead to more solid shots and reduce those pull shots you mentioned. This tiny tweak also allows your wrists to very naturally unhinge and since you already have such nice rotation around your spine - then your hands will tend to be more passive. So getting the right elbow to lead the hands and handle -- allowing it to pass in front of the right hip going into the strike will allow your wrists to unhinge as your rotate through the shot.

I'm attaching a link you may enjoy which helps a little with the initial setup. I personally do not do everything exactly as described in this link when it comes to my setup - but it certainly is a very close representation of what I strive for.

Good luck - Thanks for sharing and here is that link for your consideration:

Hey man, thanks a lot for your feedback!

I guess I understand what you mean!

as the weather turns better here in Germany I will be able to do some filming tomorrow.

As I was playing yesterday, I was pretty pleased with my new swing, I did strike the ball very well and straight. The result was a 84, but an 84 which felt like a round in the 70s since I was hitting greens in regulation but did not make a lot out of it, three-putting it all over the place and a short game which was almost not existing.

But that was ok, since it was the first round of the year.

My short-game and putting was rusty, fair enough, but the thing which I was working during the winter worked on the course as well.

Still some work left but to see that things improve after putting in some work is a satisfying feeling.

I will keep you posted.a1_smile.gif

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
