of pulling and pushing my tee shots

I have gotten so sick and tired of losing the ball straight left or pushing the tee shot right, I am about to give up trying to dig it out of the dirt, and just go play and expect to put one out of bounds or in the water. I know that I am coming over the top, But I have not solved the problem. This year, I have worked on my shoulder turn, tempo, and getting my divot pattern more toward the target. It has gotten better, but the longer the club, the worse the miss.
Take today for example. I did not hit a fairway, two peanalty strokes on the front for a 42, then was able to keep in in play better with four hit fwys on the back with two birdies for a 37 (79). This is on a tighter than most golf course, but not rediculous.
So what do you all think? Go to the first tee, or is there some more digging left for me on the range?

You have a backswing problem. Like most better swingers you have a too low backswing that leads to 2 things:

 

1) You either have to come over it a bit and smother the ball and it pulls

2) You shallow out, below plane, and swing too far to the right and you push it.

 

So, what you need to do is make that same "push" swing but you need to do it with a much higher backswing. Make some backswings with your butt a few feet away from a wall. Now make your backswing without hitting that wall. IF you make that same "push" downswing instead of being "under plane" you will be on plane and you will most likely hit a violent hook because your hands are used to trying to save the swing. Take your hands out of it and the ball should straighten out.

 

edit: Don't make your downswings in the same position, you may shift to a shallower plane and that club will hit the wall. So remember, only backswing drill.

The swing is not fixed yet, but I have found a way to get it around in 71(-1) on the first day of a tournament this past weekend. I putted well, and the golf course was wide enough that I felt ok with my longer clubs.
