Driver off Deck

Tried it this morning. Topped it I'll stick to my 3 wood.

first anymore with todays drivers I only hit it If I have nothing to carry and a miss is going to turn out ok wide fairway someplace it can role out.

 

Just the same even with my Cobra 8.5 with a shaft I believe is made to keep it down I can smoke driver off the deck

 

But remember is the ball is not rolling I can still hit 3 wood farther

 

For me (anymore I hit it 250-260 off the tee) driver off the deck goes about 220 in the air and rolls a long way as much as 30 yds

 

Three wood goes about 225 to 230 but stops into a good breeze its less and thats when its driver time

 

Now I am not as accurate with driver off the deck as with other clubs why because the secret to get it up is speed.

 

I have to accelerate hard at the bottom.

 

Now here are my keys choke up 3/4 to and inch move the ball a tad back in your stance and let the blow be slightly decending (helps get the ball up) last but not least and I seldom say this hit it hard.

Driver off deck is good for one thing... a 200 yard no-flight running worm-burner into very strong wind - the only time I even consider such a nonsense shot.

 

edit: by the way, the 13* 3w is a great club, is anyone making a 2w or something around 11* anymore and has anyone tried this instead?

actually used the driver off the deck yesterday, sidehillish lie in the rough on an open par 5, just hacked down on it as hard as i could and it carried about 150 and rolled about 70 yards

I believe Cleveland made a HiBore 2 wood or something along those lines...

This one is back? I haven't tried it on the course in a while. I still hit 6-7 drivers off the mat at the range though every time I go. Since I started the original thread I've changed to the TEE 13* w/CompNT over my old R7TP TS with a Redboard. The TEE is a monster. I've hit a green from just a hair inside 260 with it so driver off the deck is not used too much anymore. Plus the TEE flies high, high as a 6iron easy off the deck.

I saw Woddy Austin tee it off the driver without a tee today at Buick's

 

I saw that on a replay. Although he didn't use a wood tee, he did work the turf into the equivalent of a low wood tee.
