Neck problems

Herniated/bulging disc between C5/C6. I've never had any neck or back problems but apparently my MRI showed otherwise. The first thing my GP tells me when I walk in for my follow up is "You're probably going to need surgey..." What can I expect in terms of non surgical therapy or what can expect post op? I know what the internet is saying, I prefer real life information. Thanks

Last year finally gave up fighting it and went for an MRI, found I had 5 in my neck. Did decompression therapy and regular visits to my chiropractor and surgery was no longer needed for me. My mother and the guy that does all my club work both have had surgery and both are much better off for it. I would definitely get a 2nd opinion before I jumped straight into surgery as an option.

He gave me an inflatable cervical traction collar ($50 inflatable neck pillow), steroids, muscle relaxers, and pain meds. Believe it or not, it was almost instant relief putting the neck life vest on. He said structurally my neck looks great so once we get the bulge corrected I should be good to go. The next two weeks will determine what road we go down. Huge relief, I was not looking forward to going under the knife!

I've been going to the chiropractor with varying results. I haven't had any MRI's, cause I'm a blockhead who refuses to go to the regular doctor. But, I know I'd be told I need surgery. Eventually, I'll get it.

I've heard of too many people, still having problems after surgery.

Surgery is definitely my last resort. Hopefully therapy will help me maintain some quality of life concerning golf, that's my biggest fear.

Almost the same for me, probably the 2nd or 3rd visit getting my neck stretched I felt considerably better. Glad something is helping out for you to make surgery a last resort.
