Argyle made in Scotland?

Anyone know about these old clubs. Age,type of wood etc

Irons look like forged ones I'm guessing

Argyle were storeline clubs made by Spaldings outlet in the UK. Donaldson made good clubs, particularly the Rangefinder line and later the 'New Yorkers', finished in 1954.

That's very interesting Chris.

I've seen quite a few 1950s/60s irons with the Stewart pipe mark on them.

 

I understand that Stewart was acquired by Forgan in 1931 who in turn were acquired by Spalding in 1945 so I guess that it would be reasonable to say that any post-war pipe cleek marked iron (apart from Swilken ones) would have been produced by Spalding?

 

And to complete the picture of course, Swilken came about after the winding up of Spalding and several of their irons included the pipe cleek mark.

I've found it impossible to find vintage minded golfers The closest group I know that plays vintage and hickory is over 100 miles away from where I live. The USA is just too big.

 

The guys I used to play vintage blades with are all golfing with St. Peter now. They never updated their kits.

Back in 69 or 70 in Houston I used to play with a guy from Scotland named RalphMc Taggart, a naval architect by profession. Don’t know what irons he played but he hit a funcky looking driver tha looked squared of on the toe. Don’t know who made It but somehow th name Louie Octorloney sic was mentioned. Don’t know who he was either .anyone know anything?
