Vega VM-02 / Miura MB-001 To replace my MB’s

Been looking to replace the MB’s as there a couple of years old now. The Japanese Market has definately caught my attention, mainly the Miura MB-001 & Vega VM-02.

 

I live in the uk so fitters are few and far between for such clubs, the closest to me is a place called pure forged however this is around a 5 hour commute each way, something I don’t mind as long as I know I’ll be for sure buying a set as a result and I’d turn it into a long weekend.

 

I’ve decided i’ll Pick up a 3 iron for both the Vega and Miura, with one of my two preferred shaft options (KBS C Taper or DG X100) my coach can tweak the club for me on his loft and lie machine if required however I’m usually standard length and lie. This will allow me to trial the irons and see how I feel.

 

Yesterday I took delivery of a Vega VM-02 3 iron that I won on eBay from a reputable golf store for £50 delivered and it’s literally like new. The resale of Vega is poor in the UK, whereas a 3 iron for the MB-001 looks to be closer to £125 in good condition.

 

So i’ll Try the Vega tonight and see how it feels, and keep an eye out for a Miura in the mean time.

 

I’ll update with my findings of the VM-02 and then again when I get hold of the MB-001. I think the VM-02 is going to suit me. I like the idea of higher CG and the grind looks as though it suits a picker.

 

Anybody else compares these three or similar and how did you find them in comparison?

Two very different sets. I’ll caution you that the VM-02 looks somewhat similar to a standard MB from address in the low irons. Progressively, though, they look like different beasts. I’d say once you’re at 6i (maybe even 5i) the size and offset differences become very apparent. I wanted to love the VM-02 (I had one if the very limited raw sets), but I just couldn’t. Now, the VM-01...that’s a more suitable comparison.
