Grip Style v Shaft Flex v Swing Style

Lets see if there are any trends??

Hi,

I wanted to investigate if there are any trends in peoples preferences in regards to the way you grip the club, what type of flex and what type of swing you have. (This is primarily aimed at iron play).

For example myself... I grew up playing an interlock grip, using regular shafts and sweeping the ball. Typically I preferred to play a high fade. I played some of my best golf this way. I used to struggle in windy conditions though and sometimes would get a little wild.

Then in order to try and become more consistent I went to an overlap grip. I found I could get more distance and what seemed like a better ball flight. I used to struggle with playing an accurate fade and went to a draw. In order to tighten the dispersion of the shots I went to stiffer heavier shafts and became more of a digger. My problem with this technique is that despite how good the contact is I have to be on my game and have always struggled to stop the ball as accurately as I used to. I am going to try and go back to the interlocking grip and softer shafts.

I recall that Jack Nicklaus used to play with an interlocking grip and said that he could have easily have played regular shafts. I am reasonably sure that Jack was / is more of a sweeper.

Tiger however plays an interlocking grip but I believe he plays x flex irons. I guess he is a bit of an anomoly though. So will leave him out of this for now.

So I encourage people to please comment and log your preference. Sorry if I have not covered it. Again all comments welcome. Ideally I would have liked to include shot shape preference and handicap range in there as well... but that would be too many options...
