Weekend hacker getting back into golf after a long hiatus.

Howdy.

 

I’m new here, but not new to golf. I’ve played in fits and starts for the past thirty years or so, but I’ve finally decided that I want to be more serious about it. Mostly because for the first time in my life I have friends who also play golf.
 

Most of my play before now was solo, and golf isn’t much fun if you can’t laugh at your buddy’s shanks off the tee, then sharing a cold brew at the 19th hole.

 

I’ve put together a pretty decent starter set of clubs and have been having a blast browsing eBay looking for good deals, like in the old days.

 

My current lineup:

The long irons were just to complete the set, since I have that range doubly covered by fairways and hybrids. I also opted for the SS lob wedge since if I’m going to spend $150-175 on a single wedge it’s going to be a Vokey most likely.

 

Everything is also kind of a mishmash because I don’t have enough skill to be fit for anything yet, and the shaft profiles are kind of all over the place. I did try to stick to general convention on weight profiles and other technical details I’ve picked up here, and also by remembering what I didn’t like about my old clubs (they perished in a wildfire back in 2018).

 

Then once I figure out what I like with these clubs I can find stuff eventually that fits me better, though the stuff I got so far seems pretty solid for my current skill level.

 

I’m in Northern California, and usually by this time of year we’re seeing sun and 70+ degree weather, but this year has different ideas. We’ve gotten nearly as much rain since December as we got all of last year, so I spend more time watching golf on YouTube, or browsing eBay, than hitting the range or the course.

 

Hopefully soon! My golfing buddy just got fit for a new set of Ping G425’s and he’s itching to get them some action.
