Putter weight placement

Hi all. I've got a putter I really like, it's one of the Cleveland soft series, one of the slightly larger blades. It originally came in 35 inches and I had it cut half an inch and beefed up the grip just slightly. I liked it before, and now love it. The weight is just right for me and the length is much better this way.

My miss with the putter is a pull. Obviously I'm not shooting in the 60s on the daily so I'm sure there's room for improvement all around, but I'd like to experiment with adding a tiny amount of weight by tape.

I think if I add it to the toe area that will help prevent the face closure that is encouraging the pull. Worth a shot.

Is that correct in theory? And do I want the weight at the rear of the putter or the bottom? Anything but the top.

Preferences? Practical tips?

Well, no comments, but I took a shot at it. Added just a bit of lead tape to the outer toe, surface pointing away from the body.

I feel it worked very well. My left and right dispersion was pretty even in testing, not a majority left misses like before.

Now if I could just get strike speed and break right every time...

I believe your theory is correct and can help with face closure. I was struggling with a pull as well. I went and had a putter fitting and it turned out my putter was 34” with a lie angle of around 71* (71-72 standard) and they had me down to 66* at 33”. If the putter is too upright it can cause left misses. Like you, I was happy with the feel of my putter so they just adjusted my current putter. I am able to make a much more comfortable and natural stance and they roll straight and I make a lot more putts now.
