righty lefty putting?

For my last round I switched to putting lefty and liked the results. Has anybody here done this ?

* in my bag is a Bullseye blade style putter so no equipment change was required.

I have a four friends (all old guys like me) who do this.  One does it because of eye dominance (which, I suspect, is vastly underestimated in putting), another after unsuccessfully battling the yips.  A third guy uses a Bullseye and putts righty on long putts, but lefty inside 10’ or so.  Norah Begay did a version of this on Tour, too.

The most interesting of the four, though, was an all conference lefty QB in college in the late 60’s who grew up in a very small town with no access to lefty golf clubs. He learned to play using his dad’s righty clubs, but has putted lefty for decades.  He’s almost completely ambidextrous; when he played tennis, he served lefty, then hit everything else righty.  Fwiw, he tried to convert to full lefty golf a number of years ago and couldn’t hit the ball AT ALL with a lefty full swing.
 

All four, btw, are very good putters.

Im literally doing this right now, I haven’t taken it to the course yet.  I’m left eye dominant and write left handed.  I’m trying to switch to left handed putting but lead hand low so it’s actually the same grip I used as a righty.  I bought a used putter off of eBay to start testing it out.

Please ask your buddy if when playing QB he ever rolled right-threw-right, rolled left-threw-left ?

*as far as I know a QB  has not done this and I wonder why.

No, he was strictly a left handed passer.  The why is easy; it takes a tremendous amount of ability, skill, and practice to throw a football well enough to play QB in college football.

I've been putting in my basement left-handed for a few weeks and it was working nicely and I was ready to take it to the course last friday.  I showed up early to putt on the practice green for awhile.  Lefthanded putting couldn't have felt more weird, I couldn't line up a putt to save my life.  So I putted right handed on the course and had a great day putting haha.   I will be listing my left-handed putter for sale on here later today.  No regrets, I felt like it was an itch that i needed to scratch.

Years ago I had a 2 way putter that I swapped to try lefty and it worked for a while. Though, I later bought a regular righty putter and haven't looked back. The trouble was in my stroke where I would force the ball. When I would putt lefty, my left hand was not as forceful as the other way around and it generated a smoother stroke.

Even though I went back to righty, it taught something that I carried onward. A lot of folks don't use a true pendulum stroke with their dominant hand and force the putter through the ball trying to hit it farther with strength rather than the motion of the stroke. So whatever helps the golfer tap the ball in the right direction instead of whacking at it is a good thing in my book. 😄

This player is right eye dominant and switched to lefty style putting?

No, he's left eye dominant and switched to lefty putting.  He thinks it's helped; I don't play with him regularly, and never did before the switch, so I have no idea if he's better or not.
