There are some "taylormade" driver heads on ebay that seem a little suspicious to me. My question is: Why would a "tour van" ,first of all, be a head only, and secondly why would it be shrink wrapped? Am I just paranoid? They are also " hot melt" and have a "hot melt" sticker on the face that looks like it came off my printer.

The tour vans are awash with clubheads, the simple reason being that they are thus ready to be shafted up with whatever a player requires shaft-wise.

 

The shrink-wrapping is common enough and is there to prevent scuffing of the finish when they're in storage within the van. Often clubheads are stored loose in drawers or boxes within the van.

 

Most of the stickers that you're referring to are printed off by the techs in the van after modification; probably with a run of the mill printer.

 

If you're after a tour head for whatever reason, the proof is in the serial number (or lack thereof in some cases); and knowing your source is the best bet to avoid falling foul of a con trick.

Pretty much everything on a tour van is head only. That way, they can put in whatever shaft the player wants as well as add weight, hotmaelt, bend it or whatever else. And yes, they are almost always in shrink wrap and ya, those hotmelt stickers look like cheap little stickers. All that is is just letting them know that some hotmelt has already been added. Also, don't let them tell you hotmelt is anything special. All it really is is hotglue that they use to add a little weight or change the sound/feel slightly.

 

Whatever you are looking at sounds like it is OK since that is how almost everything comes from tour vans. Look through the pics of the tour vans in the tour forum here, you'll see hundreds of heads packaged up just like you are describing. But if you think they are fake for some reason, you would be better off posting pics or a link to the auction and getting opinions on it. Good luck.
