odd happenings at the course

Was playing on Saturday and noticed some smoke billowing up about 1/4 mile from the course while on hole 15. Hole 18 plays adjacent to a water hazard and while we were playing through the hole we had a helicopter come onto the course to retrieve water to extinguish the fire. My buddy took these pics with his phone:

That is quite a sight. How long did it take for the copter to fill up?

That's awesome. I actually hit a drive that hit a tree about 50 yards in front of my and flew about 20 yards behind me. Pretty crazy tree bounce.

That is quite a site to see, I also wonder how many golf balls it sucked up will getting the water.

I imagine that there were quite a few balls sucked up during the process.

 

It only took about 30-45 seconds to fill up and they conducted about 5 round trips until they were finished.

 

Was a bit odd the first time, but once we realized they would be making round trips, it wasn't too bad. The helicopter is equipped with a siren that is quite loud and lets you know when they are coming in.

 

The down side was that I was trying to get through quickly and shanked my five iron layup about 60 yards short of my target :russian_roulette:

I'd seen the same thing down in Santa Cruz about 12 years ago,

 

It doesn't happen very often, but golf courses with water hazards are a great resource to get water fast for a chopper!

I don't think its a rule but if a helicopter distracted you on a swing could you rehit? haha

Wildhawk Golf Course just south of Sacramento. That is hole #18. There is a creek that bisects the fairway about 280 from the back tees. Then there is water right with an elevated green right of the fairway at the end of the water hazard.

Only if you hit it, and its not your helicopter. Then it's free retee and a trip to wherever you want!

It is a great finishing hole, as long as you don't spin it back into the water.

The question I am wondering is if this is a private course or a muni? If a private course, is the FD going to reimburse for the private property it appropriated and did not return (the water)? I mean, obviously the FD needed the water for a good cause, but if the government seizes private property, it must reimburse at full value. Kind of one of the reasons we had the Revolutionary War (the unlawful quartering of soldiers in homes without reimbursement).
