how to get hosel weight out

Should I drill it?

I´m changing shafts in an iron, and the hosel weight didn´t come out(but I know there is one down there). No matter how much I heat it, it doesn´t want to fall out.

Only thing I can think of is get a drill the same size as the hosel, and drill until I can put the shaft I pulled out back again to it´s full depth.. that way I know I´ve drilled the right depth. Does that make any sense?

Drilling works fine, especially if it's an iron head.

 

I have also had success screwing a self-tapping screw into the weight as far as it will go, heating the bottom of the hosel and then pulling the screw and weight out together with pliers.

 

Either of those approaches should work.

If it's lead you can drill it out, but if its tungsten you can't you will have to use allot of heat !!! and it will come out. Good luck.

I keep a metal rod just for that purpose and more. You can buy one at the local hdwe store. Should be , in diameter, one small enough that you can insert thru the grip top and long enought to force the weight out. This is helpful also in removing epoxy that remains in either a steel or graphite shaft when you don't want to remove the grip. good luck!

I've had success with a long-thin-tiny forceps I bought at a tackle shop...for getting that hook out of a fish's throat w/out him taking your finger.

It has a simple locking mechanism in the handle so I clamp her on the weight - then re-heat (a bunch) and pull it out. Has worked every time thus far.
