Black Gold vs Project X

I'm thinking of reshafting my MP-60s with DG SL to one of the two options.

I'm a swinger, don't hit the ball extremely far like alot of people here. Driver swing speed is 100. I hit X-tours with the Project X today and liked the higher launch. Has anyone compared these two shafts and have any suggestions from an average hitting swinger. I hear that Project Xs tend to be a little stiffer than their frequencies but I like their weight class. The Black Golds are ideal in consistency but the long irons are a little heavier than DGs in weight. Thanks for the opinions in advanced

Sorry, not answering your question, just wondering the same things. These are the two shafts that I am also considering to put in my irons this year. I am leaning towards the project x myself. The weight is whats turning me away from the black golds. I had played s300's in the past but switched to DG lites a few years ago for the lighter weight (I think they are something like 110 grams) and higher trajectory(too high now). I want to go a bit heavier than the lites but not quite to the 130 gram range of the dg's. So that pretty much eliminates the black golds for me. The longer irons especially is where I like the lighter weight. So that just about leaves me with the project x 5.5. 115 grams, just about exactly where i'd like to be. Still would like to hear comparisons between the two shafts though.

I have the black golds in a set of cg4 tours but have yet to hit them due to work and chitty weather. and I have a set of kzgs with the px. since I have played the px if you can get them fitted properly they feel very smooth,. the guy who built my set frequencied (sp) the whole set, we went 5.0 in the long irons down to 6.0 in the short iron. I'm a hitter too. these have a sw of d4 to d6.

with the cg4 tours I'm switching to d2 and r flex since people say they play stiffer. if I get a chance to hit them soon I'll report back when I get a chance.

I compared both shafts last week. My swing speed is around 95 and i also consider myself a swinger.

I tested both shafts from a club fitter who fitted them with Maltby 5 iron heads, both with regular felx. The trajectory of the black golds is the way that true temper describes it, medium with a boring trajectory. Distance wise I didn't see any difference between the current DG's. Feel wise the black golds didn't feel much different than DG's with sensicore.

The project x's felt smoother. Trajectory was boring and I would say a little lower than the black golds, but still higher than DG's. Dispersion was where these shined. Every shot just stayed on line. The balck golds were tight, the project x's were tighter. Feel wise, I would have to give it to the project x's. They just felt effortless to swing. The black gold felt considerably heavier and my club fitter said they long irons felt like lead pipes.

I ended up getting my cobra ss forged re-shafted with project x's. I should get them back tomorrow and will play later this week. I can give more feedback later if you want.

Good luck. I don't think you can go wrong with either. Both great shafts, for me though it's project x.

Not sure what your availability is to a club fitter, but I would suggest trying to find one of each to demo.
