Golf GPS for Window Mobile 6.5 phones

No-one else has replied to your post so I thought you might like to look at an application called "FreeCaddie" - I have it on a Nokia phone but there is a Windows mobile version.
I have a Sononcaddie V300 which I'm very pleased with but there were a couple of courses where we play matches and which are not mapped. Most of my local courses are mapped on the FreeCaddie site, but not the same two courses. FreeCaddie is free, but if you pay a one off fee of $14.95, you get FreeCaddie Pro which allows you to map a course using Bing or Google maps. You have to know the order of the holes but you can put flags on for front, middle and back of green, plus add hazards (to reach and to clear). I found it very easy for the two outstanding courses.
I checked the FreeCaddie on my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic against my Sonocaddie today on every hole and agreement was very close. Normally, you can only edit courses that you have mapped yourself, but the software author is very approachable, and allowed me to edit my local course (which is "owned" by someone else).

The GolfLogix application works on my HTC Touch Pro2 (the Tilt2 rebranded by AT&T) and that phone has WM 6.5. It works pretty well but costs about 40$ a year I think. You can test it for 24 hours for free. So activate it right before you go to the course.

I got the new HTC HD2 smartphone over the weekend and wanna see what options are out there for this new baby....

Gonna give both a try sometime this week and see how both of em stack-up.

Definately go with Golflogix. $39.99 a year, but it goes well beyond all other smartphone GPS programs.

Thanks - I need to check out if there are course downloaded already for China as there is where I'm current base for the next few years lol

Thanks - sound good. I'm gonna try to e-mail them and see if being based in China will be an issue for them??

Well I got myself IntelliGolf (version 9) for my HTC HD2.

The cool thing about this software is there is a replica of it in your desktop, which makes life so much easier to input, download, edit but the thing I dislike is the buttons for input on my HTC is so small I can hardly see....why can't they make those buttons larger and more user friendly !!

As a bottom line.....would you recommend it?

Appart from the button size which you mention...are there any other issues? I've read somewhere that using a phone as a GPS range finder, is heavy going on the battery. Hence, a struggle to keep it allive for 18 holes?

Golflogix wouldn't do a whole 18 on my iphone. It was cool but if I got a text or call I had to restart the program and it took too much time. For the price I was hoping it would work, but I just bought a skycaddie. iPhones are awesome but not for everything. If you just need yardages I use Moblie yardage GPS. Its free and only 1.99 for a course. The first course is free. Its cool and simple but again the phone calls and text problems.

Well at this moment after 3 rounds with it, I decided to stop using it as it suck my battery juice and the buttons are way too small to input properly on a touch screen phone.

I'm still awaiting for more feedback on other WM GPS.

Meanwhile, I'm also thinking maybe having a separate unit is the way to go but will see...
