TPC Knowledge
Will be in Vegas in a couple of weeks and will have time for 1 round of golf. I am looking for anyone that has local knowledge of the TPC courses.

Which is better, TPC Las Vegas or TPC Summerlin. I have the opportunity to play whichever I choose. Can someone tell me which course is more appealing?

It will be myself(just under a 3 index) and my buddy(scratch) so difficulty is no matter, just want a fun round of golf.

Thanks in advance.

Dustin

I've played both. I absolutely prefer Summerlin over Las Vegas. As a matter of fact, here's a review I posted on Epinions: TPC Summerlin

In answer to your question, I prefer it over TPC Las Vegas because, first, it's a private club, so there's much less play. We played it the Tuesday after the tour stop and it felt like we we the only group on the course. Second the conditions [s]are[/s] were fabulous, perfectly manicured, lots of hazards, tough greens. It will test your game!

One more thing, anyone with a Visa can get on TPC Las Vegas, not at TPC Summerlin. For me, it's a no brainer. I'm not saying TPC Las Vegas is a goat path, far from it. But it's certainly not TPC Summerlin.

Enjoy.

The conditions of both courses are similar = as good as it gets.

The real difference is the overall design of the courses. TPC Las Vegas is a desert target course with a few screwy holes with blind shots. Tee shots on this course are quite demanding. If the wind is blowing this course is a monster.

TPC Summerlin is a much more straightforward course with everything pretty much right out in front of you - what you see is what you get. Generous fairways, but the real teeth of this course is the greens, lots of subtle movement and false fronts and edges (think Pinehurst). Also, this course is much tougher to get on, especially without a member helping.

So, play TPC Summerlin. Only reason to play TPC Las Vegas is if you want a more desert target course.

Hey Dustin! You're in luck...I live here, and have played a number of good courses. May I suggest a few as well?

The ones mentioned above, are all great in their own right. Here are a few more:

Bears Best
Dragon Ridge
Bali Hai(past Mandalay Bay)
Rio Secco
LV National

ALL very very nice courses, and all bring their own difficulties to the table. Dragon Ridge is one of my favorites, as well as LV National.

Have fun.

+1. I totally agree. Summrlin is a great course and the greens were fabulous the couple of times I was able to play there.

Thanks for all of the info fellas. Getting on is not a problem so it looks as though we will be playing Summerlin. As for not being "Vegas" golf, I am not really worried about playing desert golf. I just got back from Scottsdale(Troon Pinnacle, Grayhawk Raptor, Vista Verde, Desert Mountain Geronimo) so I have had my fill of desert golf, at least for the time being. sbguard, I do appreciate the heads up about not being desert though.

The trip really isn't a golf trip and at most will be playing 2 rounds so Summerlin is a definate and Cascata if we decide to get a second round in.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
