Thrash Talk: Bunker's Dozen: May 2006

Was Lefty's great month of April enough to overtake Tiger in the latest Bunker's Dozen?

The month of April is in the books, and boy did it fly by! The first major championships have come and gone for the main professional tours, and they left us with some great memories. Phil Mickelson won his second green jacket in three years, and Karrie Webb defeated Lorena Ochoa in a playoff at the Kraft Nabisco. Other than that, it was just another solid month for golf fans worldwide.



The Bunker's Dozen is back for another month, and business has definitely picked up in the golf world. The list has changed quite a bit, but there are still some familiar faces as well. Without further ado, here is the latest Bunker's Dozen.

1Phil Mickelson makes his way back to the Bunker's Dozen by winning his second green jacket in three years. Mickelson also won the BellSouth a week earlier.


2Karrie Webb earned the #2 spot by winning the LPGA's first major championship of the season. Webb holed out for eagle on the 72nd hole and won in a playoff.


3Augusta National is still one hell of a golf course, and it put on a great performance once again last month. The more things change, the more they stay the same.


4Tiger Woods only played The Masters in April, but he finished in a tie for third. That's good enough for me.


5Stuart Appleby won the Shell Houston Open en route to becoming the third PGA golfer to win multiple times in 2006.


6Michelle Wie maintained a spot on the list by finishing in a tie for third at the LPGA's first major of the season.


7Aaron Baddeley finally lived up to the hype by outlasting Jim Furyk to win the Verizon Heritage; Badds also added a tie for 11th finish at the Zurich Classic.


8Lorena Ochoa lost the Kraft Nabisco in heartbreaking fashion, but bounced back with a win the next week.


9TaylorMade is back in the golf ball business, and The Sand Trap has all the news you need regarding the launch.


10Chris Couch chipped in on the 72nd hole to claim his first-ever PGA Tour victory!


11Retief Goosen keeps hanging on to a spot after a T4 finish at the BellSouth followed by a T3 at The Masters.


12Tim Clark finished in solo second at Augusta and in a tie for seventh at the Verizon Heritage.


13Charles Howell III finished dead last at Augusta (worse than even Charles Coody) and also lost by one at the Zurich Classic after watching Chris Couch chip in to win on the 72nd. That's definitely worthy of unlucky #13.
