Cheap golf in Central or South America?

Have sabbatical coming up

My wife is a professor and she gets a six-month sabbatical starting in January and the plan is to spend it somewhere in Central or South America. The exact location is still up in the air, and naturally I'd like it to be someplace where I can golf. It has to be cheap because I won't be working. Any suggestions?

If you go South definitely Argentina (all of it) around Buenos Aires theres a lot of good courses and the argentinian money is pretty cheap right now (around 1/4 of a dollar). Consider that winter is just starting in south america so take that in mind.
Paraguay is also a great place for golf, it`s probably the cheapest country in the region and there`s one resort in particular wich i think you can find pretty similar to U.S. Resorts and has nice course and it`s like 10 dollars for hotel guests, the resort name is Yacht y Golf Club, you can find it online.
Uruguay is beautiful but it´s kinda cold right now aswell as Chile (and a little more expensive). As for Brazil, i think they are just starting in golf and most courses are new (not tall big trees, etc)but the beaches are great.
Havent play in other South American Countrys so my suggestions are limitted

The South Pole is the cheapest I know You might try Belize, it is very nice tourist destination and not expensive.

If anyone gets to this thread 13 years later (as me 😆), I'd like to add Colombia. It is an amazing undiscovered golf destination that fits the pocket since the exchange rate is currently around 1 USD = 4,000 COP. There's over 50 courses and most of them are in Bogota, the capital. The best thing is that you can play year round as it is a tropical country with no seasons, but at the same time you can experiment plenty of different landscapes 1-2 hour flights away from each other: mountain cities in the Andes (such as Bogota, 8,660 ft asl), valleys in the Pacific region, and coastal courses on the Caribbean. One thing to consider is that you have to contact a local tour operator that partners with the golf clubs, which are private and exclusive to members.
