Municipal Courses

Is it just me or do almost all muni courses setup better for a fade or slice.

I think they do, as that is the tendancy for most golfers to hit.

a lot of muni's do not have big name golf course architects, some aren't even designed by golf course architect's at all. there are golf course design guidelines, that designers such as dye, jones, fazio, etc.... probably laugh at. the guideline calls for the right side of the center line to be wider than the left side. plus, yes, many municipal courses cater to a player of lesser ability. one reason muni's don't have bunkers - that and less course cost.

the course i play most of my rounds at is a muni, but it seems like all the trouble on the course is on the right... trees galore...

 

there is some OB on the left on 6 of the holes, and no OB on the right side, so I guess that's a good thing...

 

problem is i spray my driver, so i never know what kind of day it's going to be...

now that i think of it, most of the holes at the course i play at set of for a fade, or at least a little one. the only two dogleg left holes are sharp turns. most of the other holes are slightly left to right, but not much.

looking at it that way, the majority of the holes on my course are set up for a right to left ballflight...

 

there's only one dogleg right, but that's a 90 degree one that breaks at about 190 yards and then continues downhill another 250...

That sounds like a tough hole. Even hitting a perfect shot to the dogleg still leaves you a 3 wood to the green.

Out of all of the courses that pop into my head i can remember trouble being on either side but not favoring one side or the other. But if architects did this it would definitely improve the pace of play at muni's.

Oddly enough a lot of the muni courses in the Chicago area set up for a fade. Why I don't know, just happens to be that way.

This reminds me of when I played a buddy the other day who works at a course near me. He hits a fade and I hit mostly a draw. We were going to meet up at the course the next day and play a friendly match. Well spank me and call me Sally if he didn't put all the flags on the right side when he set the pins first thing that morning. Still beat him though, the cheater!

no doubt... it's a 3 shotter for me no matter what cause i have trouble hitting woods off the deck...

it is a 5...

 

the real bad thing about this hole, is that everything along the right is OB... and the OB is only about 20 yards to your right...

 

the left side of the fairway after the turn leaves you nothing but lies where the ball is well above your feet too...

 

i big hitter could probably fade a shot around the turn, but it would have to be HIGH, as the trees are very tall...
