one plane swing question

After reading Jim Hardy's excert off of the Golf Digest website, I thought I would give the one plane swing a try. I think I'm going try to convert to the one swing method since I'm hitting the ball more consistantly. The only problem I'm having is since the spine angle is lower, I'm finding that I'm chunking or hitting the ball fat. I remedy this by chocking up on the club that seems to work fine. Did I remedy this correctly? Should I move the ball up or away from me to a point where my arms are not hanging down naturally at address? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

HI,

I am not familiar with his teachings to be honest, but it appears your solution is nothing more than a quick fix. Seems you would be better off getting the proper set up for a full swing, only means that much less you have to take into consideration upon address.

Which usually means more consistant play day in and day out.

gripping down is not the proper correction...

i'm assuming maybe you are letting your weight hang back on your downswing and that's why your hitting heavy shots...

tough to say though, without weeing you in action...

I read the plane truth and it has helped my handicap go from a 16 to a 4 this year. I always found that i hit the ball better standing far away from the ball and sweeping it(one plane) even before i read this book.

Good quick fix, but not a permanent solution.

There are quite a few reasons why you could be chunking the ball.

A slight chunk could be caused by an improper release of the arms, not being "palm down" enough at impact, or simply not getting your arms around your body enough.

A big chuck could be caused by not having the right arm on top of the left on the backswing, or a lateral slide on the downswing.

I'd find a Hardy trained instructor or at least post some video for a more definitive answer.

Is it possible that you are bending over too much? It's kind of hard to tell without pics, but the one plane swing only requires slightly more bend that the two plane swing

For me, it was too much lateral weight shift! I never realized it till i saw my shadow moving on day. I used the mirror to reinforce how it felt like when I don't shift at all. It DOES feel like I'm doing reverse pivot at the top when I don't shift weight to the right!

I totally agree, I just couldn't believe it until I saw it on video. I'm a natural one-planer, and find that I hit it much better without any shift to the right. What my teacher tells me is to turn around my right leg, and my body will coil by itself. What do you think?
