Dipping the left knee

what does he mean by "dipping" the left knee?

does it mean it goes inside towards the rear?

in pics his left heel comes off the ground and his left knee seems to go out perpendicular to target line.

well, sort of, it does go towards the rear as well.

tried this tonight and seems to make quite a difference.

Not a swing guru here.... im actually hacker trying to.figure out my own swing. Read hogans book a while back but probably not with as much diligence as i should of.
What i assume he's refering to is, that when you make your shoulder turn, if you keep the right knee inward and load the inside of your right foot, the left knee has to go somewhere to let the hip rotate. By dipping, i think he simply meant let the left knee bend so the hips can rotate. He didnt really bring his heel up much, or his knee in as much compared to some of his contemporaries. Such as sam snead. Youtube sam snead swing collection. Or even Arnold palmer or jack nicklaus (the most major winning player ever).
New school coaches would have you not let your left heel come up or the knee inward. I think to keep more balance and consitancy. New school is way more compact feeling unless your young and super flexible. Old school let them really load the right leg and get a deeper whipping turn with more hip action. It made more sense to me when i started golf cause it made the turn easier if your loading the leg and not rolling onto the outside ridge of your right foot (like bubba)(see bubba swing analysis wdefransisco on youtube).
The modern swing uses more upper body with quieter legs and hips. Yes... hips and legs are where much power comes from, but if you look at snead, nelson, nicklaus and hogan; they all fired the hips or legs much more aggresive than modern tour swings. Even tiger had to calm down after blowing his knee out. I think he swings with his back and core and not as much with his legs as he use to. One of the reasons its not the same swing as his younger years.
