Calgary Ab - Private Courses

I am lookng for feedback from Calgary golfers on their private club experiences. I am looking at moving from a semi-private to private. Any thoughts on the Hamptons? I have been playing a 27 hole layout and I am not sure how bored I would get with just 18.

All depends on how much money you want to spend. Also if you don't mind being on a waiting list somewhere. Hamptons is a good track and you would have no problem getting in right away because they currently have something like 40-50 members. Also what area of the city you want to be in as well.

Thanks for the reply. I would like to keep in in the sub- 40k range. I live quite close to downtown and would like to be within 20 kms. This does not lead to many options...

I've heard the Hamptons is one of the worst courses around, especially for the money. Why not Silver Springs, Country Hills or CGCC since you are close to DT?.

My sons soccer coach used to be a member at the Hamptons, I will ask him tomorrow why he left. I know in the past there was a waiting list to get into Silversprings, not sure if that is the case anymore. SS is a nice track and kept in very good condition. There is talk about Lynx Ridge moving to a private club once they sell more memberships. They have the land to build another 9 in the future.
I personally don't love Lynx Ridge as it has a bunch of quirky holes.

Thanks 9or18. I agree that Lynx Ridge has quirky holes. I would really like to hear reasons why he left. I love Priddis, but 40km each way is a stretch.

Silver Springs is a great club and an excellent golf course. The are spending a lot of money on it. It is only minutes from downtown.

Carmoney is a good track. Have a friend that plays there and speaks highly of it.

What about Priddis? Both 18's are excellent layouts and the service has always been excellent when I've been there.

No disrespect intended as 2 of the 3 nines at Heritage are very good, but the OP is looking to move from semi-private to fully private.

I know talk of closing one nine and building on it. They have no more land to develop.

Silver Springs is great. Priddis too far. Carnmoney is not a great course. Hamptons is poor for the money although you can play 36 in 5 hours bc know one plays. CGCC is wait listed. Country Hills is good but very busy with events etc.

Many courses allow for a annual pass or play in place of a member. Priddis has many people playing like this. Good way over a few years to decide what club you may want to pay at for years to come.

Sorry, maybe I misunderstood you.

Canyon is private. I was referencing your course as I thought you were throwing it out as an option too. I enjoy playing there, but it doesn't sound like it fits what the OP is looking for.

Today I got lost while driving to Golftown. I turned around in the driveway of Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club. It seemed very nice, albeit quite deserted!

Canyon is a good course and active membership. Great greens and with the Champions Tour coming it will bring some prestige.

Canyon meadows is a good track for sure I would say better then the likes of silver springs, country hills etc. If you want close to DT I would suggest either Earl Grey (not my favourite), glencoe. Not sure what Earl Grey's wait list is like but last time I heard about glencoe it was only a couple years. Glencoe has by far the best practice facility in the city and also 45 holes which is nice.

EG has changed it's wait list and not excepting any new additions until after Feb 1. Going up in $$$ too.....I like EG a lot and expect a lot of changes in the next coming years. Glencoe is about a 5 year wait but if you show up with $$$ you can be a corporate member.

Looking to purchase a golf membership at a private or semi-private track near Royal Oak in the NW. Choices that are fairly close by are:
- Bearspaw - never played, heard mixed reviews
- Lynx Ridge - decent course with some quirky holes, practice facilities are not that great
- Hamptons - never played, heard mixed reviews but now has new ownership - anyone else looking at the Hamptons?
- Silver Springs - never played, heard good reviews - is there a waiting list?
- Valley Ridge - decent track, decent practice facilities
- Springbank - not a fan, but they are improving some of the quirky holes and range now open
- Country Hills - good courses, good practice facility, lots of members - not sure how easy to get tee times

Theres another "Calgary" thread where a member goes through and gives his opinion on all the various courses in and around Calgary. Should be in the same section as this thread.

Though, I've heard that the Hamptons is going public or semi-private. Not sure if this is true or not.
