Hi, born-again UK golfer here.

Having benefited from a lot of content on here, it's time I joined and introduced myself.

I'm 46 and used to play (rarely) in my teens/early 20's. Born and raised in the UK, but have family all over and used to play when visiting Colombia, where my mum was from. Stunning courses, beautiful weather, great caddies and thin air (Bogota 2600m altitude). You get the picture. I used to refer to myself as a fair weather golfer because I played most of my golf in Colombia. Golf in the UK was never quite as appealing, but I did play occasionally and took a few lessons.

Anyway, just got back from my first trip to Colombia in a long time and took a couple of lessons and played 9 with a coach/pro whilst I was there. Now I'm looking to get back in to golf properly. Picked up some irons and started taking lessons and hitting the range at my local club. Not having played for 20 years, I can't even remember what I used to shoot a round in and I never had an official handicap, but I think I played to about 28. My aim this year is to get an official handicap around 20 hopefully.

I'm just putting up a long-winded thread in the Equipment section looking for some advice on clubs I still need to fill my bag so if anyone would care to comment I would appreciate it. I'll add a link here once it's up.

Welcome to the madhouse! - Fellow UK golfer here (not far from you, in Surrey) - As you already know this is the best golf forum on the 'net - Huge amount of knowledge here & (mostly) a very friendly bunch - I will look out for your Equipment Forum post & chip in if I can

Thanks Paul, I replied yesterday, but my post must have found a water hazard. I had a lesson at Sandown Park as it happens - is that anywhere near you? Back there on the 26th for a follow up.

Hi John ... I have just added to your Equipment thread - I am not a million miles away from Sandown (Surrey isn't that big!) but live near Camberley & play @ Guildford - Glad to hear you are investing in lessons, but if you hang around here you will end up like the rest of us spending too much on equipment & not enough on instruction ... Welcome to WRX John, the prodigal golfer. Make sure you stick around for at least 2 years as we are heavily outnumbered for the Ryder Cup banter war this way.
