Extreme Nervousness

Just because you are nervous does not mean you can't hit a good golf shot. However my best year in tournament play came when I was on prescription beta blockers since then I have moved off them and on to excercise and diet.

 

I am a nervous person as well and had played some of my worst tournament golf this year however i took two years off from playing any tournament golf. My final nine in my last tournament was one under the front nine was a disaster. I am looking at that as a win!!! to each his own.

 

I use to play money matches wich toughten me up(mentally) because I hate to gamble. I have other obligations which made me unavailable to commit with that group.

 

Also walk don't hop in a cart... You get to your ball to fast after a bad shot and you are still pi**ed off.

 

Don't play stupid golf when things go bad.. try'ing to hit par 5's in two where 7 comes into play.

 

Take the DB out of the picture a couple of those and you are sol... bogeys can be off set with birdies.

Like a lot of PGA Tour pros say....just walk up, stick to your routine, and hit the shot/putt.

The longer you stand over things...the more you think about it....then the more you get nervous.

 

I think Lee Trevino had said he hits his short putts so fast, he doesn't ever have time to feel nervous!

I second/third/fourth the advice to focus on the process- that's really my number one thought before a tournament round.

Once the game gets under way, I'm fortunate in that the anxiety subsides.

 

I enjoy playing in front of spectators since I feel that I'm probably better at it than most people- just keep thinking about the process.
