Golf around NYC?

I've played 47 of the top 100 ( the 2011 list is when I started) It is in my top 2 golf courses. over pebble, spyglass,mpcc,valhalla,torrey, kiawah, anything in arizona, everything in florida, the only one that competes that I've played is Fisher Island.
It amazing to me that the pureness and authenticity of the black is lost of people who call themselves "golfers". I suppose thats the difference between a golfer and someone who plays golf.
Oh and by the way, there are companies all over the country that you can pay to wait in line for event tickets, camp out for season tickets or movie premiers, so of course there are going to be ways to get premium times for premium monies.
I played tuesday, I'm going again in 2 weeks (aeration the 23rd, gotta get your rounds in)

for sure dude! could always use an extra buddy.Ive just been real lucky with the people I meet. Like I met a dude at a bar a month ago in Norwalk,CT. Talking golf, bullshittin', turns out he is a member at Liberty National, playing it with him thursday!!

I played the Black a couple of years ago in October. Course conditions were great. 25 mph+ winds and the cold didn't help, but what are you going to do. 6 hour round - yes. Employees who couldn't care less - yes. But what do you expect? It's a public course - those guys are probably making minimum wage!

Haven't played as many top 100s as the others, but I would rank this ahead of Torrey Pines for sure in terms of golf experience. Definitely recommended!!!

Oh definitely ahead of Torrey, talk about long rounds and impossible tee times! Torrey and Valhalla are the most overrated courses I've ever played. Good, strong tracks, but not worthy of their reputations.
I can name 10 courses in California that I've played that in my opinion are better than Torrey

My top 10 that I've played, in my opinion

Bethpage black, Fishers Island, Spyglass, Kiawah Ocean Course, Hudson National, Shelter Harbor, Pebble, Winged Foot, MPCC (shore), Victoria National.

Not in that particular order other than 1,2,3. I know not many have played Hudson, but it being ranked 93rd is a travesty, it is spectacular.
Victoria National is special because, from the tips its the hardest golf course I've ever played, and that includes Pebble 9 days before the US Open.

10 might have been a little over zealous but lets see.
Pebble,Spy,MPCC(shore),Riviera, Stadium Course, Lost Canyons (sky), Pelican Hill, ... ok maybe not 10. Dont get me wrong, Torrey south is a great course, I'm just very picky (golf snob)

The only course on there that I have played is Lost Canyons Sky.... that was a horrible course....the only cool thing about it was playing the hole that they used for the Dufner comcast commercial....Torrey blows the doors off of Lost Canyons... What did you like about it?

I love the dramatic nature of most of the holes, that course from the tips puts an amazing premium on hitting it long and straight. The landscape is stunning. Torrey looks like a park.
