Golf in the Philippines

a great place to play golf
Every course ive played in the philippines has been simply fantastic. In the Manila area i highly recomend 'Manila Golf' and 'the country club' . Manila Golf is of the highest standard and is situated in the center of the Manila area, not cheap but well worth it . (undergoing a refit and may be closed for a while)The country club is a more interesting course and a little out of Manila in the Cavite direction. A tee shot across a small valley full of Jungle is an interesting test.
The PhilippinesGolf in the Phills is not cheap by the standards of everything else there but the side benifits are great. The low cost of manpower means there are usually 20 or so gardners working on a course so the fairways and surounding areas are in tip top condition ,always. No one there would dream of playing without a personal caddy, all most all are female, expert at there job (and very pretty). The caddies are paid directly by the player, in a counrty where people get paid $50 a month $5 or $10 to a caddy for a round makes u a friend for life.Like all good restarunts in the Phills the food at all the courses Ive tried really is first class ,and so cheap you will not believe it, a five star meal for four with drinks wont cost you $20 a head.
If you like to travel to play golf try the Phills, a great place to visit and play golf. If you would like to join the club at 'Manila Golf' you will need deep pockets, Like many countries the memberships are 'share memberships', $250,000 would not get you in at Manila golf.

:clapping: All true and well said, coppinpr! I've played the Manila Country Club and it is on par with any other 5 star course on the planet. Impeccable course conditions and the truest of true rolling greens.

A few other comments:

- your caddie will tee your ball up for you on the range and or place it on the turf for you (get one really)

- the caddies are usually female (you should really get one)

- your caddie gets to know your yardages on the range and will pick the right club for you on the course (did I mention you should get one?)

- drink and bring lots of water

- try to go as early as possible to avoid the heat

For a change, you might want to try Anvaya golf Club which is only 30 minutes from Subic. It will be a total unique play experience offering great views of the West Philippine Sea at 120 meters above sea level. Designed by Kevin Ramsey. it has been recently awarded as Asia's Best Golf Course.

It is also an exclusive residential beach community offering Beach and Nature Club for its residents.

This is the perfect place to retire for a Golfer with a great home by the beach and an awesome Golf Course at your backyard.

Feel free to message me for more information.

Manila Golf and Country club is an exclusive to the max country club but I suppose you are already aware of that. The club not mentioned is located in Canlubang, about an hour and a half from Manila and I believe even more exclusive. I spoke to the owner about membership once and he told me that even if I had the money, they would not necessarily sell me a membership. :) Don't worry too much. They are fine courses but Manila Golf and country club is actually a rather short course more suited to it's aged membership. It is kind of fun looking at the fancy golf carts some of the members sport or did when I last went there, but other than superb service and serious luxury, it's just an exclusive golf club. In Calamba at the Ayala Greenhills Golf and Country Club, you can find similarly superb service and serious luxury at a much lower price.

Scattered all over South of Manila meaning south of Makati, are assorted private clubs that sometimes accommodate walk in guests. Most are a hefty length and very very comfortable with a quality that rivals the $ 500 courses you have in the States. Admittedly I have never been to the $ 500 courses in the states but I have seen pictures and they seem to offer similar facilities. You may have better pro shops there, probably do. North of Manila, and I mean Bulacan and further, are more courses but they are fairly well spread with plenty of kilometers between. Takes more planning to visit them. Of course, as a tourist, you need planning and a telephone all the time.

There are probably some golf books of Manila's golf courses around, at least I used to see them, but the locals pretty much know their way around so they did not have all that much of a market. It might also be clever to join a Golf tour and be bussed to golf courses with everything pre arranged if you can find a good one at least the first time. Saves you a lot of hair pulling and lets you do exploratory golf. There are just too many courses of fabulous quality all over and too difficult to list them all, or I just don't want to try. One of the reasons for so much Golf is that we have 365 day golf with the exception of days a Typhoon or Monsoon strikes.
