Tour Burner vs. R7 irons ?

Has anyone tried both, and which one is better and more forgiving?

Any TM players here?

I hit both when I was on the market. The Tour Burners have a thinner topline and feel less clunky compared to the standard R7s. I haven't compared to the R7 TPs. The TBs feel more of a players club with its thin head. I almost got them myself. Distance is good but you get a bit more out of the R7s. The R7s are heavier and you would do better in the rough with them. They are also more forgiving.

Just like all the burner models, its about head lightness so that you can swing faster. If that's what you are looking for, go TB.

Thanks for your input. I was wondering if the Tour Burner irons heads feel lighter due to heavier shaft (bu about 15 grams) - although yes I agree Burner family in general was supposed to be faster / lighter head & shaft, etc.

I would hold off a week or two and wait for the new Tour Burner Titanium Bubble 3 LCG Midsize XD TP Draws. Supposedly, they they will be able to transform into lawn edgers and fire photon torpedos. They should be in stores by June 1st, released as part of TaylorMade's next bi-monthly product cycle.

I was looking for a forgiving set to play in those days (well...maybe months) when my swing wasn´t good enough for my steel shafted forged Srixons so I gave the R7s (among some other cast sets) a go.

Did not like them at all with graphite regular shafts. I do not know if it was the shaft or me but was not able to control the things. They went everywhere, especially left...

Tried them in steel and liked them very much. So much that I almost got them even though I was looking for graphite shafts.

While I was making my mind up I went to a Taylor demo day and they were just releasing the Tour Burners. Didn´t even know they existed to tell the truth...

They are in my bag now.

Less offset than R7s (I like that) and a little bit smaller (I also like that).

I hit them with regular and stiff graphite and reg steel.

I got regular graphite.

It seems like a totally different shaft to me...maybe it´s not but I am hitting them so well that it is hard for me to imagine that they are the same...

I think they are great clubs and the design of the cavity is not so horrible as some say...I do not see them at address anyway

I made the switch from R7 TP irons to these a couple of weeks ago, best move I ever made. My dad and has the regular R7 irons and these are less offset, smaller, sound better and IMO easier to hit. I can hit a draw or fade if needed. Three of the guys that I play with have purchased these irons in the last 2 weeks. ;) on average 4 more greens around.

I actually tested them today and they are pretty forgiving. For some reason, I felt the R7 irons feel softer though, the Tour Burner feel a bit "harder" (kinda harsher feeling) but not sure if thats because of the standard shaft (I upgraded my R7 shafts to Rifle Flighted). Distance between TB and R7 are about the same. Just that softness (a bit). I also have hit the R7 Forged (Japanese version - belongs a to a friend), R7 XD and R7 TP, and they are softer than the Burner family in general (including Burner XD). Not sure if the materials are different or the shaft though.

NP. They are harsher which would be expected from less material. Hitting dead center in the sweet spot feels nice though. The R7s aren't exactly softer...they just have more material absorbing the hit. Like hitting the ball with a sheet of steel vs a block of steel.

Hi BigMike, we play almost the same set of clubs! I have a 5 wood R7 TP with V2 HL too, and it is so long it is almost as long as my 3 wood (almost same distance).

How do you like your 3 wood R7 TP with V2 HL (that combination seems to be very good!)
