Hands at impact

Which way should the hands be facing at impact? I ask because I can do it two different ways.

When I swing naturally, the back of my left hand is facing the target at impact. My miss is usually a hook or pull hook, especially when the arms take over the swing. The face feels fairly square during the downswing. This swing feels more powerful to me. With this swing, my right wrist bends backward in transition, and the wrists don't really hinge upward much.

I can also swing so that the outside (pinky side) of my left hand is facing the target at impact, and the back of my left hand faces the sky. With this swing, I need to do a conscious clockwise roll of the forearms during the backswing. Also, the wrists hinge up during the backswing, and there's very little right wrist bend backward. The face feels wide open. In order to square the face at impact, I need to consciously roll the forearms back counterclockwise during the downswing. This swing feels less powerful to me, but keeps me from the nasty hooks, especially with the driver.

So how do you guys do it? How do most instructors say to do it? How do the pros do it? I'm pretty much self-taught and never had a formal lesson. I like to play by feel and go with what's working. Just curious on what others have to say about this, or if what I'm saying even makes any sense.

The "feel" for me is that my right palm is the clubface. If I'm hitting it left, I weaken my left hand a little. If I'm hitting it right, I strengthen my left hand a little. I never change my right hand though.

I probably shouldn't have said hands "at impact", because I guess at impact, both of these ways of swinging result in the right palm and the back of the left hand facing the target. The difference is hand position during the downswing.

Under the first method, where the right wrist bends backward during the backswing, I don't do any conscious clockwise rotating of the forearms, and therefore the back of the left hand and palm of my right hand never face the sky. Under the second method, I do a conscious clockwise rotating of the forearms in the backswing, the wrists hinge up (like a fisherman setting the hook) and the back of my left hand and right palm face the sky coming down until I rotate the forearms back counterclockwise just as I'm coming into impact.

I started this forearm rotation in order to fend off the pull hooks with the driver, and it has been working. I just don't feel as comfortable swinging it this way, and I think I'm losing a bit of distance and solidness of strike. Under both methods, I hit a draw. But the draw can easily turn into a hook when I don't rotate the forearms.
