Update: I did further digging and found that North American Specially Insurance Company is under Swiss Re company. Swiss Re is solid company and I did speak VP in charge of US and he did assure me that they do underwrite for US Hole In One through North American Specially Insurance Company and they are reputable company. I also found North American listed with Bloomberg as being in business and also a solid company.

Not sure if this helps you at all...I have been using Advantage HIO recently and they are awesome. US-based company, communication couldn't be better and very easy to work with in the event of a winner.

Yes, they are legitimate. Having owned a sports and entertainment insurance brokerage for over 10 years and worked with this company, and a few others with good experience, I can say they are a good company. That said, regardless of company, sometimes getting claims paid on things like a hole in one can be a difficult process.

 

There are several stories about $1m hole in one contests where the prize was difficult to cash in or was not paid at all, but for reasons related to the rules and policy details. E&S insurance policies contain a lot of subjectivity, which can be difficult to understand when someone gets excited about winning $1m.
