Golf Digest's Hot List

My problem with Golf Magazine's test is they don't test that many clubs. Golf Digest at least tests most of what is available, and according to the list they provided, a lot of clubs that were discontinued at the end of '05. The recommended choices in the Hot List are more like 25%, not 75%. I think the best would be a combination of the two, with a larger panel of players with varied handicap indexes rating the large sample of clubs that Golf Digest uses, while printing the rankings the way Golf Magazine does.

I had my bag filled before this test came out but, my bag agrees with a lot of the test:

Driver- Cobra Comp.................................. did not make it

Fairway- Taylormade r7tp............................made it

Hybrids- Taylormade rescue dual tp............. made it

Irons- x-tour.............................................. made it

Wedges- volkey ..........................................although i wanted spin milled I don't have them as of yet

Putter- odyssey tri hot .................................did not make it

Ball Titleist- prov1 .......................................did not make it

 

So they were not off far from my bag. The Cobra driver that won was the speed and I never tested it before I bought the one I have so I can not compare. The putter and ball I like so much I have not been interested in trying something different.

 

So the report did not influence the purchase of my equipment, it just so happens they worked out close with their their picks.

buzz factor = how much $$$$$ that company is spending in advertising with golf digest

This "hot list" is really the "bought list". Notice the lack of Titleist equipment on the list, seems strange that the one company that does not really push its equipment with advertising dollars, wouldn't make it...

 

Last year a Nike Rep told me that they better have put the Slingsh.t iron on top because of the contibution (like that of the national debt) that Nike laid down...

 

If you are looking for equipment choices in Golf Digest, I think they have some very usefull swing tips in there that only work with Nike equipment too...
