Hello GolfWRX Members,

My name is Ben Sarb, and I am the Co-Director of the 2nd Skip Olson Memorial Golf Tournament that will be held in the North Seattle area.

If you live in this area, or know someone who does, please read on.

Here is a little history on our tournament:

While I was on my high school golf team in '05, my mom was diagnosed with a rare and terminal form of cancer. At the same time, my good friend Mike Olson (who was also on the golf team) unfortunately had his father, Skip, lose his fight with cancer. Instead of sitting idly by, Mike and I decided to put on a golf tournament and donate all money raised to the American Cancer Society. It was a huge success, with a full field of 144 players, over 10 volunteers, over 20 sponsors, and had a total of $12,562.05 donated to the ACS.

This year, another member of the golf team and close friend to both Mike and I is taking on the challenging task of directing the 2nd Skip Olson Memorial Golf Tournament. Like last year, I am assisting in any way possible.

The 2nd tournament started off with several bumps. My mom had beaten all the odds and was trucking right along. In November, things took a turn for the worst, and 3 weeks ago my mom lost her fight and passed away. You can read a news article on her here.

I haven't spent nearly as much time on this years tournament as I wish I could have, due to all the family issues going on. And because of that, I have almost run out of time to sign up players and find sponsors.

I am asking all of GolfWRX if they can help out our great cause! If you live in, or know anyone near Seattle that would like to play in our tournament, let them know about it! If anyone would like to sponsor our tournament with prizes or donations, please email or call me! The registration deadline is March 31, and I am quickly running out of time to find players.

2nd Annual Skip Olson Memorial Golf Scramble
April 7, 2007 @ 11 am
Eaglemont Golf Course, Mount Vernon, WA

WHAT:

Come join our tournament to help in the fight against cancer! The Skip Olson Memorial Golf Scramble is a Non-Profit Tournament that will raise money to support cancer research. 100% of all money raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life!! This tournament is a 4-person scramble format. When you register, you get:

* Entrance into the 18 hole Scramble Tournament
* Power Cart
* Automatic Entrance into a Long Drive Competition
* Automatic Entrance into a Closest to the Pin Competition
* A Chance to test your skills in a Beat the Teaching Pro Contest
* Banquet after the round including food (good food!), prizes, and the award presentation
* The chance to make a difference is someone's life!

WHEN & WHERE:

The Skip Olson Golf Scramble will be held on April 7th, 2007 at Eaglemont Golf Course in Mount Vernon, Washington. It will be an 11:00 am shotgun start and directions to the course can be found at eaglemontgolf.com

WHO:

This tournament is for anyone who wants to have an enjoyable day and help us raise money for a great cause.

HOW MUCH:

The cost per player is $90. For a registration form, or sponsorship information, please see the printable forms on our website. The registration deadline is March 31.


Right now, we have plenty of open spots to be filled. I want as many people as we can (144) to be at the tournament. If you have ANY ideas about how to find the players I am looking for, please let me know!

I know that their is a rather large NW WRX following. I work at Puetz Golf in Seattle, and have talked to many people who frequent this website. SPREAD THE WORD!

Sorry about your loss, I thank you as someone that has a history of cancer in my family as well. The more we know, the less I worry for the futures of all of us.
