Ken Brown messing with clubs

For those not in the U.K, Ken Brown is an ex European Tour player who now does on course commentary for the BBC.

They had a preview of the Masters last night and there was a bit with Ken Brown going through the players bags in the locker room. I know he's previously been told off by Monty and a couple of others for touching their clubs (a lot of pro's don't like their clubs being messed with)

Thing was, I can understand why they had a problem. He picked up one of Sandy Lyle's gleaming new Nike blades and slammed it back in the bag without a care in the world. He then rubbed his hand all over the lead tape on EE's new irons and the worst bit of all, he picked out Ben Crenshaw's trusty 8802 (out of his old Ryder Cup bag) and proceeded to almost throw it back in the bag.

It's fantastic to see all the clubs but I can see why players get pi**ed with him.

Any one else see this?

Very annoyed to have got in too late to see it as it normally works as a good warm up for the main event. Do you know if it is repeated at all or available online?

You might be able to download it but I don't know for sure.

 

I know they've got coverage live from Amen Corner today from 3.30pm on BBCi. You can see all the groups go through just those 3 holes until the full live coverage starts at 9pm.

 

They might show a repeat of some kind during that.

Villa - I agree with you, I couldn't believe the way he was going through the bags - showed a total lack of respect to me. Overall the program wasn't much good let's hope the coverage is much better. Mind you the guy using nail scissors to trim the grass round the newly cut hole was interesting - must mention it to the greenkeeper at my club!!

The coverage is always quite good. I can't wait.

 

I don't think they get a choice about what to show live. They've got their own commentators and a few cameras but the rest is all owned by Augusta so they show what they're told to show.

 

Augusta chooses the BBC to show the coverage. As far as I know you can't bid for the rights (otherwise Sky Sports would be showing it).

 

Did you check out the green sand they put in the divots!

i cant agree more; i was really suprised to see the way he was with the pro's clubs. If it were my clubs in my bag being slammed i would not be happy!!!

I saw the program too. Personally, I enjoyed watching him having a wee dig through the bags, sort of thing we don't usually get to see. I actually presumed that he must have had permission to touch the clubs, but perhaps not!

 

I can see some of the guys maybe being pissed off with someone touching their clubs, but its hardly a big deal. I didn't think he slammed the clubs back in any harder than the players do themselves.

It's different when it's your own clubs though. I heard a story about Monty getting really annoyed with him at the British Open a few years ago.

 

He's obviously got permission to go through the room and it was interesting stuff but the thing with Ben Crenshaw's putter seemed to be pushing it a bit far.

 

Don't get me wrong it's not the end of the world, just caught me eye that's all.

Im watching it now on BBC HD,And i have to say it looks amazing.Almost can see every blade of grass!

I think your taking it a bit far fellas, mind you those finger prints on ernies clubs could have been the reason for his 78 eh?
